Table of four on a wintery February Friday night. First time visit for me and my husband. We met another couple who had been there and highly recommended it. At first glance, the exterior is unassuming but as you walk up, there are indications of refinement without being pretentious, and I was quite surprised by the interior. It has an up north lake house cabin vibe including a cozy fireplace. There are several dining areas including indoor seating upstairs (which I did not visit). Our reservation was for 6 p.m. We arrived a little early and they were already starting to fill up, but we were soon seated at a cozy corner table with a small arrangement of beautiful fresh flowers. Our server greeted us immediately and service throughout the evening was attentive. Our table ordered raw oysters and crabcakes for appetizers. I forgot to take pictures of those, but they were beautifully presented and delicious. Our dinner companion suggested the old bay hot sauce behind the bar, and I fell in love. I had to order a case from Amazon the next day so I could share it with friends and family. It was the perfect companion to the raw oysters and now I put that sh*@ on everything! For dinner the table had two wagyu hanger steaks, the lamb chops, and I had the potato encrusted walleye (I was planning on the salmon but eyed the walleye at another table and it looked so good that I couldn't resist). We all shared bites and the food was delicious! The hanger steaks were cooked perfectly and well-seasoned. Tender and juicy. I wish I had taken pictures of them after being cut into. The lamb chops were juicy and flavorful. The walleye could have been seasoned a little more, but I could have eaten a plateful of the spinach & tomato sauté that was on the side. The cauliflower mash was a pleasant low-calorie substitute for potatoes. All in all, a lovely dining experience. I can't wait to go back in the summer for the lake views and outdoor dining on...
Read moreI've never felt the urge to leave a restaurant review before, but here I am for the first time.
I've been eager to try LYC since it reopened, and we finally had the chance to visit tonight. While I understand that they were understaffed for a Friday night in the summer, I was a bit taken aback by a few hiccups during our meal. Our appetizer arrived after our main courses, I received chips instead of fries, and we were initially charged for children's drinks that were included with the meals (though the staff kindly adjusted the bill). Much of this seemed to stem from our sweet but inexperienced waiter, and as a former waitress myself, I appreciated his efforts and left a generous tip.
However, my review centers around the side of red skin potatoes—three small potatoes, to be exact—for $6. At first, I thought half of them must have fallen off during the journey to our table because the portion was surprisingly scant. I honestly wish I had taken a picture; it was laughable! I double-checked with our waiter, who confirmed that this is the standard serving size.
While I could have easily overlooked the other issues, those three small red skin potatoes were the tipping point for me. Very disappointed, as even at very expensive restaurants, I can’t recall this type of serving size. Unlikely to return and I so wanted to fall in love with this place, it’s three minutes from...
Read moreI truly enjoy and love “mushrooms”, so here’s 2 specific items I ordered and was looking forward to:
Steak “& Mushroom” Skillet* WITH ZIP SAUCE $15
MAPLE GLAZED SALMON SEARED SALMON “ON A BED OF SAUTÉED MUSHROOMS” & SPINACH SERVED WITH CAULIFLOWER MASH $24
Placed order over phone. 10 minutes later informed “they just ran out of mushrooms”. Wasn’t asked to change, No price adjusted, no substitutions mentioned or offered when I arrived for pick up, just a “see you when you get here”. Upon arrival, I politely asked would they substitute something after being charged full price for something I wasn’t going to receive for both menu items. Cherry tomatoes suggested…(ok). Wasn’t overly busy. Received phone order 45 minutes after calling. Steak bites, generous in size…no tomatoes. Several tomatoes came with the salmon, which was to include “a bed of mushrooms”. Bummer spending over $41 (full price) considering an error on their part.
Management added insult to injury to the “revenue source” of their livelihood…the customer. Considering how costs have risen for everyone, don’t disappoint your revenue source as this customer had to ask for a resolution since management had not offered one. Offering something in advance for the trouble is better, otherwise “this revenue source” is going elsewhere before considering to return to this newer establishment ever...
