As a Chicago girl I am quite picky about my pizza & I can tell you without a doubt this is amazing pizza from an amazing local establishment with excellent customer service!!
First the food...the pizza has the crisp, flavorful cracker crust that I grew up with!! This is the most difficult crust to master & they have done it to perfection!! The toppings are first rate, high quality, & plentiful!
We also ordered breaded mushrooms-amazing!! My 6yr old was eating them by the hand full-the rest of us were left fighting for crumbs-but it was worth the tussle!! ;-)
Side salads were good(not just lettuce, they include tomato, cucumber, & cheese as well), the ranch dressing was spectacular...my one suggestion would be to add a few of those famous croutons instead of the pack of crackers-however that is minor & I'm sure could be fixed with a request or just by eating in next time.
The gourmet fries are not your standard appetizer fries, these are over the top LOADED with REAL cheese & bacon!! I could make a meal with just these fries...with ranch to drink, I mean dip ;-)
The coconut cake was good, however as a former baker, I tend to be a smidge more critical here & say that there is room for improvement...but its good. The 7 of us split 3 pieces & there wasn't a crumb left-after full meals, so obviously no one was complaining too much ;-)
Now on to the service...before my husband even made it back with our food, I received a phone call from DJ's, they had found our salads on the counter, we had left them behind...the owner, Tiffany, BROUGHT THEM TO US!! She literally got in her car & brought them across town-during a storm no less. This was unbelievable & truly made a bad day brighter-that was the point of the pizza in the first place. Then we got a double dose thanks to the outstanding service & hospitality!! That level of service is unmatched at any restaurant I have ever frequented, anywhere & exactly how they have earned my Hsv pizza business for life!! We we're first time customers, but that will not be the last time for sure!!
Try DJ's, you will not be disappointed!! The food is amazing, the service even better!!
On a side note, my super picky 7yr old who normally eats 1-2 bites of something & is full, she ate 3/4 of a small pizza....
Read moreMy family and I have been here like 5 times. We just moved to the area 2 years ago. While the pizza is really good, we’ve had the DJ special and the Hawaiian and the fried mushrooms, the service is ALWAYS painfully slow. Don’t come here remotely hungry or you will starve to death. The staff is very friendly and the one waitress they usually have is running ragged. I feel very sorry for her. There are 1,000 teenagers milling around in the kitchen coming in and out. One of them should come out and help wait tables. The poor waitress, it’s usually the same lady, is drowning. You guys are always busy, that’s great but you need more help as far as wait staff and the 1,000 teens in the kitchen need to do some work. I have sat by the kitchen and listened to conversations and seen people standing around so I know this for a fact. Last time was particularly slow, my husband wanted to try the wings. I like the loaded fries so we ordered 2 appetizers as well as two pizzas. The pizza came out first. The fries a few minutes later. After we were completely done and ready to go the wings came out. We asked the waitress to box them up to go. Now usually I feel sorry for her because she is running around crazy, but on this occasion she did not seem concerned or apologetic at all. It was by far the slowest visit and I was very irritated at the order our food came out. That’s a kitchen issue. When we left I went up to pay and a young man asked how everything was. Well if he asked I’m going to tell him the truth. I said the service was very slow and I told him everything that happened. He was apologetic saying they had a lot of take out orders or something like that. The food was great but with everything else going wrong I left very irritated. I’ll probably come back but something needs to change or that will probably be...
Read moreDJ’s is a best kept secret tucked away in Ryland! The wife and I drove past this place a number of times, curious, but to be honest we were unsure if we would feel welcome. Judging from the number of cars outside, it appeared to be a local favorite so we ventured inside. A great decision! The first thing the staff did was to dispel any idea that we were unwelcome. The servers were absolutely charming and immediately made us feel like at home guests. The owner took time to personally greet us and thanked us for visiting. We saw a number of folks walk in who were called by name, like only a place with regulars can do. They educated us on the menu, the daily baked goods and the restaurant history. If you’re paying attention you may hear some good old down home trash talk among the staff or the regulars, and you know it’s all in love! The crown jewel was a table visit we received from Ms Dorris, the kitchen genius behind their delicious offerings from the sauce, to the dough, to the baked goods and more! My current favorite is the DJ’s Special pizza (see photo) and the hot wings. I also devoured a slice of coconut cream cake. Perfect sweetness and texture like only homemade can achieve. But to be honest, I need to try more menu items like the lasagna, fried pickles, spaghetti and meatballs, and the varieties of gelato. Soon… soon. The decor is very much a down home joint, but it’s very clean from front to back, including the restrooms were spotless. You’ll see a number of all the state license plates bordering the ceiling with sports memorabilia on the walls and 3 television monitors for guests to enjoy. DJ’s is a gem that we love and we’re so happy to...
