Oof.
I should've listened to my dad, who's been here before and said it wasn't good, but me being me...I have to try everything for myself.
I stopped here for lunch on Thursday. I arrived not too long after opening -- maybe 11:20. When I'd seen this place in the past, I couldn't tell if it was a drive-through or not, so I just parked and walked up. A car drove up to the ordering window as I was leaving though, so maybe you CAN drive through? Idk, it wasn't a huge deal for me to walk up regardless.
There's no indoor dining or picnic tables outside, it's pretty much just a carryout-only place. I could smell smoke as I walked up, so I took that as a good sign, but sadly, I was wrong. There are two ordering windows, and I stood at the one adjacent to the menu with the blinking open sign for several minutes. I rang the bell when no service was imminent and still nothing for another few minutes. I was about to give up and walk away but I ducked my head around to the other window and after waiting another 30 seconds the window opened and a woman appeared to take my order.
I will grant that she was pleasant and my order came out in a reasonable time after she took it, so that was nice. Additionally, the price was pretty good, about $8.30 for a pulled pork sandwich, a bag of chips, and a huge sweet tea. I didn't order a large tea; it just came that way. But not too bad a price for lunch.
Unfortunately, lunch wasn't good, except for the sweet tea, which was solid - I'm glad I listened to other reviewers and got that instead of a Coke or something since I love sweet tea. The chips were a small bag of Golden Flake, classic style. I didn't get a choice in it, but that was fine by me.
The barbeque though...I'm sorry, but it was some of the worst bbq I've had in a long time. The sandwich came with slaw on it, which isn't how I prefer my bbq sandwiches, but I tried it anyway to try to expand my palate. I don't dislike slaw necessarily, but this one was nasty and smelled super pungent, such that it stunk up my car on the drive to find a place with a trash can to throw away the rest of the sandwich. The bun was mediocre and turned to wet mush as I was taking my first (and last) bite. And the pork itself was dry, tough, and just gross. No bbq sauce to be found anywhere on the sandwich or in the to-go bag, but I don't think even the best sauce in the world could've saved this pork. Like I said -- oof.
I feel bad leaving reviews this harsh, but it was a remarkably poor lunch experience. Two stars for the friendly service and...
