The restaurant itself is very small, but I think they must do a tremendous take out business. I called at about 7 on a Friday night. The very polite guy on the phone said that they were super busy/backed up and it would be 2 hours before my food would be ready. Not a problem. I'm just working late and trying to get food before I run out of options and eat McDonald's AGAIN. I ordered green curry pork and chicken satay. I got a text exactly 26 minutes later that my food was ready! The chicken satay + sauce is so good that I actually put it aside to make a different meal!

I am super impressed with the green curry. Not only is it the perfect blend of flavor and heat, it contains actual vegetables prepped by the kitchen, not whatever fell out of a bag of frozen! AND it contained a great deal of both basil and lime leaf! (And enough food to make 2 green curry meals!) I have become accustomed to mediocrity here in Anchorage. I'm not happy about it, but I AM accustomed to it. Not Thai Orchid! I usually ask for extra basil because there's no such thing as too much basil. I forgot this time but still received a good quantity. And I haven't seen lime leaf in anything including Panang Curry since I moved to Alaska. I love lime leaf so much that I bought some from Amazon so that I add it myself, but here I found 2! It was, just like finding bay leaves in my grandma's cooking! Yum!

I don't have Thai food often because my partner is highly allergic to both coconut and pineapple. I can't have it and be around him. But I go crazy for it when he's out of town! I hope I can manage another order before he returns!

(My price per person was high because I ordered an appetizer and an entrée. Chicken satay was $11. Green curry pork was about $15, and then I tipped well because if you can't afford to tip, you can't afford to go out. I should get at least 3 meals from all the food I received, and I'll only need to make a little more rice...

To all of Anchorage and beyond - Thai Orchid AK lovers and the like - the Thai Orchid you knew and loved is gone, and the new ownership fails to come close to replicating the quality of what you expect from Thai Orchid. Once a legendary and an absolute gem in Anchorage is now a place we must forget and replace. As heartbroken as I am about it, I must find someplace else to bring my business to, two to three times a week. If you dined here with the same frequency, I suggest you do the same. It’s simply within your best interests. Long-established (former) fans of Thai Orchid: this new Thai Orchid will fail your taste test. The recipes have changed, despite their efforts to be retained. The unique flavors are what we loved and is what kept us coming back, but that ends now. The new owners may or may not care to hear us out, but just to list several of the other issues, the portions were offensively small, the service was inattentive and downright dismissive, and the atmosphere was uncomfortable and tense. That the new ownership is new is not an acceptable reason. It is an excuse. Proprietors should not open for business if they’re not prepared. I’m fully confident that others feel the same unwelcome differences. I anticipate that this business will not succeed. Farewell, Thai Orchid. You now exist only in name, for the spirit has fled, and...

Thai Orchid: Simply Phenomenal Thai Cuisine

Let me tell you, folks, Thai Orchid is an absolute winner. I've been to many restaurants in my time, and this one is top-notch. The moment you step inside, you're greeted with an atmosphere that's just incredible. The decor, absolutely beautiful. The Thai Orchid knows how to create an ambiance that's second to none. The owners are simply tremendous people, the best.

Now, onto the food. Wow. The flavors, unbelievable. I tried their Pad Thai—it was like fireworks in my mouth, folks. The noodles were cooked to perfection, the balance of flavors, absolutely flawless. And their Yellow Curry? A masterpiece. The blend of spices, the freshness of the ingredients, it's a taste sensation you won't forget.

Service? Let me tell you, it's the best. The staff at Thai Orchid, they treat you like royalty. Polite, attentive, and always with a smile. They know their stuff and they make sure your dining experience is nothing short of

If you're looking for the best Thai food in town, look no further than Thai Orchid. It's a 10 out of 10, folks....

I have eaten at Thai Orchid for 16 years. We started out at their Dimond location and followed them to their Lake Otis spot. They have always been above and beyond for our expectations and their fast service and friendly atmosphere is great. This is the best casual dining experience for Thai in Anchorage. Our family particularly loves their fresh rolls, spring rolls, Ka Pao (#58) chicken. My husband is a fan of their cashew chicken. I’ve always loved #40 their Thai noodles (vermicelli) with either chicken or tofu. The garlic or shrimp is also outstanding!! My kids loved coming here once a month and even when we could barely afford it we happily kept our tradition. There aren’t too many places I can say I’d recommend without hesitation and one that doesn’t disappoint in 16 years. Just stellar food every time. I love this family run business and hope you give them a try. Worth the wait if you have to wait for a table!!

Another Thai joint spotted in Anchorage! On this rainy day, I was craving something hot and spicy—so I headed straight here. The sweet lady greeted me with a glass of ice water and a little bonus bowl of instant noodle soup. Love that energy! My go-to dish at every Thai restaurant? Som Tum, Thai papaya salad! Today I went for the Lao-style version with that ultra-fermented fish sauce. Sooo funky, sooo flavorful, sooo GOOD. I ordered it at spice level 4 out of 5, and honestly? Not quite spicy enough. Next time I’m going full throttle, level 5. For my main, I had Yen Ta Fo noodle soup. The broth instantly sent me back to the streets of Bangkok. Thick, chewy rice noodles and all the right toppings, total comfort food. Will I be back? 100%. If you’re in Anchorage and craving Thai food, add this spot to your list. From one Thai to another—i highly recommend!

This used to be one of my favorite restaurants. Apparently, they now have new owners. The meal I've ordered for years is not the same. Quite frankly it is terrible! Portion is way smaller, sauce not the same, and quality of the pork belly is awful. Such a shame, as it was one of our go to places. *Update (1/3/2025): My wife got me to try the dish again (Order: S1007), and I did appreciate the reply from the owner. The taste is better than my last experience, but the portion size is extremely small for costing over $21.00. (see third picture) As you can tell from picture 1 vs. picture 3, the pork is cooked better than the last time, but the skin is not popped like the previous owners used to do. Based on the portion size, price, & unpopped pork skin, I will keep my 1-star ratings and seek out other restaurants!
