If you want your steak cooked to order you do not want to go this restaurant, I asked my steak to be cooked well done the waitress politely told me that they do not cook steaks well done. I did not argue I then ordered a loaded bake potato with beef brisket in the potato. I find it odd that you can’t get the steak you are going to eat that you are going to pay for cooked well done because it offends the cook. I wonder if the same cook also prepared the Beef Brisket that was cooked in my baked potato? It was not only well done but Brunt Blackened Dry as Dried Out like a Piece of Beef Jerky left out in the American West during the Settlement of our Western Frontier. The best way to explain just how dry it was the first bite of the Dried out Brisket almost broke my tooth. Everything was not bad the Waitress was very professional and polite. The view is absolutely breathtaking!! My last Commanding Officer in Iraq we were his and his wife’s guest. Their food was perfect that everyone else ordered. The waitress told us about the Famous Cheesecake! I saw another person eating a piece of Cheesecake!! It was honestly the biggest piece of any kind of pie I or my wife had ever seen. I asked the Waitress if my wife and could split the Cheesecake between us and she told us yes. We ordered it with Strawberry and when we got I was shocked and stunned by the sheer size! You could actually feed a family of 4 people. I have reduced my own sugar intake but Strawberry Cheesecake is my Achilles Heel. I took a bite, and in my short 52 years I have never experienced such a great Cheesecake! My unfortunate wife barely got 3 bites before before her 6ft 2 U.S. Army Officer husband had ate the entire pie! The Cheesecake made up for the “Brisket” the whole atmosphere and the view was breathtaking. I listened to everyone at my table and didn’t say very much during dinner because the view looking over the Mississippi River was great and everyone at my table was enjoying their meal. Overall 94%!!

I’ve been debating on if I should post this or not but decided to say something. We went to Bensons for my parents 25th wedding anniversary. Have been wanting to try this place for years and after going will definitely not be going back. We had reservations for 7pm. Got there 10 minutes before 7 and were seated probably 10 minutes after 7. Which was no problem at all. While waiting to be seated other people came in behind us saying they didn’t have reservations. After being seated - we had a table of 5 and they gave us 1 menu. We waited for 25 minutes before someone came over and took our drink order. Waited another 10-15 minutes to receive our drinks. While waiting for our drinks, we were watching other tables who didn’t have reservations and came after us order food and receive their appetizers. We ordered two appetizers along with our meals. Our food came out around 8:15. Never received our appetizers and by the time we had our food other people who came in after us were already done eating and leaving. The only reason I am giving two stars is because the servers were nice and the food had good flavor. Even though the food had good flavor, 3 of us ordered brisket and all of our briskets were cold and most of the pieces were all fat so not edible anyways. It was busy, I understand that, but its not a very big place and they had 4 servers - 4 servers is more than enough for the size of the restaurant. Disorganization seems to play a huge part in why our experience was the way it was. Would work a lot better if someone was a set bartender instead of having 4 different people wait on us. I have been in the food service industry for 10 years and I always have patience for things that happen. Here is a picture of how much fat was on my brisket This was so disappointing. Definitely not a $200 meal.

This is a nice little rivertown restaurant. If you come while it is light out, you may be lucky enough to sit by the wall of windows and enjoy the view of the Mississippi River. I would try to get a reservation if this is a priority to you. The parking is curbside and can be a little tight. The prices are a little high for the area, but the time and talent to make smoked meats make the prices understandable. The food was good, but there were several things we tried to order, but they were out of those options, so we may have enjoyed them more than what we settled for. Everything from the asparagus to the meats was pretty heavy in black pepper and spices, so it tended to be spicy, which not everyone at the table appreciated. It might not have seemed so spicy if the food was served with some type of bread like at most other bbq type places. We did enjoy the pickles and onion on the plate as the vinegar cut some of the fattines that meat tends to have. I can't say enough good about the service as they were top notch very kind and attentive.

I was very excited to try this place heard a lot of good comments about it. We arrived early and sat at the bar and waited for our table. E were seated at 6:30 which was great the time of our reservation. I was disappointed there was only one choice of fish that was not breaded. I ordered the walleye plate and my friend ordered catfish fillets. When our food came out in a very timely matter it looked good. I looked at my friends order and I said to her that is a whole catfish with bones in it. She was going to eat it but didn't really like it. When the waitress came back I told her that is not what she ordered she apologized and said yes I know but they said we are out of catfish fillets so without checking with her they just sent the whole catfish. The very nice waitress to it back and somehow they found some catfish fillets and brought them out to her. In the meantime I had my food and my friend ate some of her french fries. By the time her catfish fillets were brought to the table now her fries were cold. So I said to the waitress now her fries are cold so she heated them. When it came time to pay the bill I said how will you comp here bill. The waitress said we will comp her a piece of cheesecake. My friend said that's ok I don't like cheesecake. Now we were wondering what would happen The waitress talked to the owner and she said to comp her $3.00 off her bill. I don't feel that was right after being lied to about not having the fillets and just giving het whatever they wanted. The fries being cold waiting for the other fish and the owner never coming over to the table to apologize that is not how you run a restaurant! We drove 20 minutes to eat here and we were very excited to try it. Needless to say we will not be returning. We are from Morrison where the same owners run a food establishment at The Rockwood State Park and we won't be eating there anymore. Very...
