Jalapeños Méxican Restaurant — Restaurant in Albemarle

We have been here a couple times now. Today’s lunch was just so-so. We both love Mexican food, and think It should have lots of depth and full of flavor.

There are many (too many) items available on their menu, we try to have something a little different each time we visit. So far there hasn’t been one stand out item.

I was very disappointed with the tacos de carne asada. The meat had no seasoning. I added a little salsa and even asked for some lime wedges to help brighten up the flavor, which is always my go to for asada. Unfortunately the only flavor to be found was an overwhelming cilantro taste, even the onions were bland. The tortillas were split 3/4 through so it was difficult to eat as a taco without the meat and cilantro falling to my plate (hopefully). I couldn't rate this any lower. The food was terrible. Super bland. The decor was cheesy and a a bit like walking into a taco night fundraiser at church. I ordered the chile relleno, and what I got was a flavorless pile of greasy ground beef with a 2"x2" square of canned green chile and a slice of Monterey Jack cheese on top and put in the microwave. It couldn't even eat it. The rice and beans were okay. The chicken chimichanga, which I ordered without sauce, came out covered in this gross, sweet, red sauce. It was painfully obvious by the customer base we saw there that the restaurant has blanded there food down to cater to an older clientele with very mild tastes. I only ordered tacos so I can't speak for the rest of the food there, but the tacos were just pathetic. It wasn't worth the time, money or trying to get out of that driveway. If you are looking for authentic tacos this is NOT where to go for them. I bought 13 tacos for over $39 these were too expensive to taste worse than if I made them myself. To be clear- they weren't nasty, just NOT good. If you're gonna eat tacos like this then just go to taco bell. They may give you more meat per taco here but at least taco bell is cheap I'm not even sure why they put soooo much cheese on it either. It sure didn't...
