I visited this establishment for the first time after hearing good things about this place. I had placed my order for my family online and it informed me it would be ready in 15-20 minutes. Upon arriving in that time window, the female owner was very unwelcoming (no smile or greeting) and then told me my food was almost ready. I even pointed out the customer service experience I received and also the rude interactions I witnessed other customers receive while I was sitting there waiting for my husband. I had to wait another 15 minutes to get my food. We ate some of the food for dinner that night and it was mediocre. I have had much better here in Albuquerque.
A couple of days later, I went to warm up some leftovers and my shrimp fried rice had no shrimp in it. It was already too late to call as they were closed but I called the next day around noon and got no answer. I waited a few hours and called back and first spoke with the female owner who passed the phone to her husband once I told her my concern and he informed me that there was in fact shrimp in the shrimp-fried rice. I explained I had 3 orders of shrimp fried rice and this one did not have shrimp in it. He told me I should have called that day and I proceeded to explain I did not open this one until the previous night. He continued to argue with me that there was shrimp in it. I explained that we were hoping to have a good Chinese place to order close to our home and that we are frequent customers if the place is good and that I just wanted our order to be made correctly or my money back for shrimp that I paid for and did not get. He proceeded to tell me that he will not do that and said he did not care if he got our business or made a formal complaint.
I was excited to try this place, but after the rude in-person interactions, food that lacked flavor and main ingredients, the refusal to make it right, the lack of care and concern for their customers, and only worried about ripping customers off, I will never go back and deter anyone who tries to visit this...
Read moreI have had a few dishes from Golden Chopsticks, and I have to give a tough verdict of 4 stars.
The first time, I ordered sesame chicken and brown rice. The chicken was flavorful and had strong aromas of ginger! However, it has lost its crisp within mere minutes of sitting in the takeout container with all the sweet, gingery sauce on there. I was a bit disappointed by that. The rice was cooked with the right amount of water, but was nothing impressive.
The second time, I had chicken lo mein and brown rice. The lo mein was fantastic! It was cooked perfectly, and had a nice, well-spiced garlicy flavor. My one complaint about the lo mein is that it was a tad too greasy. You could see a small pool of grease at the bottom of the takeout container!
The third time I had the chicken and broccoli with pork fried rice. The chicken was tender and juicy, but my goodness, talk about BLAND! That dish was just plain SAD! The pork fried rice was nothing to hit home about either. It was just rice with a few bits of pork here and there in addition to a small handful of large chunks of undercooked vegetables.
Overall, I'd say Golden Chopstick's food sits on the fence between 3 and 4 stars. However, it gets 4 stars because A) prices are reasonable and B) you will get a lot of food! It's enough food to have leftovers for the next day!
With all that said, I got 3 pieces of advice for the person who reads this review

Read moreMy review is for the chicken fried rice only. I'm on a quest for the best (imo) in abq and started here. Also I will be highly critical.
My thoughts? Rice didn't seem "fried." I guess it had a lil wok flavor(wok hey? wok hoy?? You know what I mean). The rice was not seasoned much if at all.
Had a good portion of very tender chicken I would say... however trying a piece on its own makes me think it was boiled and added after. No color on the meat as well as no seasoning to speak of.
All in all marginally better than what comes in the frozen section of a walmart. 2/10
HOWEVER, THE FRIED DUMPLINGS ARE 10/10. The dipping sauce is great. Haven't tried their other offerings but the dumplings...
