July 2021: Great place. We found it when it was suggested from a patron at another breakfast cafe. $2.50 for a cinnamon roll - worth every penny. Just the right amount of dough, cinnamon, and frosting. Great value. hash browns freshly shredded. If you like bread (sourdough), homemade, this was pretty good. I had the sausage, and it was very tasty, and my wife had “thick sliced” bacon. The staff was very nice. Coffee was very good. They accept credit cards. Facility was large and clean as well as the bathrooms ( HC accessible), though maybe on the dark side. We would definitely make the 50-mile trip back here. This is an overall tourist area, but I felt this place was very “local” and reasonable. Aug 2024: Staff said cinnamon rolls up from $2.⁵⁰ to $3.⁰⁰ and were gone by 9 a.m. this morning (very popular). Some food items seemed a little over cooked. Verizon is pretty much non-existent. Guest WiFi is not working today or maybe any day. Closed on Mondays. Menu photos as...
Read moreWhat first envelopes you as you walk in, is the smell of warm, fresh bread. They make all their own bread including GF (on fridays). So rare to find at a restaurant today. Service was great. I enjoyed AH-mazing Gluten Free cinnamon swirl toast. Was fantastic. Not that crumbly dry store bought junk. They have several GF options including pancakes. The staff are all so friendly and welcoming. Great find in a small town. Don't miss it. Update: Ate there again on Saturday. Realized they grind coffee beans fresh each pot! Just keeps getting better here. I couldn't resist so had the GF cinnamon swirl bread as French toast. So. Very. Good. My husband had eggs and hash browns which of course they shred fresh each day. Wish we could have enjoyed lunch there too. Truly do not...
Read moreI am not a pancake person, however we split a full order of corn beef hash made from scratch and a short stack of pancakes with strawberry/rhubarb compote. The hash was really good but the pancakes blew me away! I talked to a lady from Houghton that advised me Slim’s is the best breakfast place in the Keweenaw and I have to agree! She claimed the breakfast skillets were awesome and maybe next time we will try those! Definitely my go to breakfast place in a world that knows less about making things fresh and from scratch anymore! A++ and kudo’s to Slim’s. Came back downstate with baked goods from Slim’s, the oatmeal raisin cookies are done if the best I have ever had in my life! Buttery and great taste! Wishing now that I would have brought...
