Stone Oven — Restaurant in Almira Township

We didn't dine in at Stone Oven Restaurant during our last trip to Leelanau County, but we were still blown away by the food itself. The sandwich we had - a reuben with an Asian-style slaw - was good, as was the pasta salad, but the BBQ chicken pizza we ordered was one of the best I've ever had.

Stone Oven doesn't make the mistake that so many other locations do with a BBQ chicken-style pizza by putting elements like pineapple into it that only add to the sweetness that's already there. Instead, they balance the warm sweetness of the BBQ with some nice acidity in the red onion and bacon bits scattered throughout, and the result is simply one delicious pizza.

This place has a lot of amazing options. I made a stop here with a group of 10 guys, and everyone was very impressed with the pizza. I also ordered a club wrap, which is a pretty standard order for me, but it actually stood out to me as probably one of the best clubs I've ever had. We were able to order quickly and the food was brought to us next door at the brewery. The only reason I'm not rating it 5 stars is the people who brought us the food seemed less than thrilled to be doing their job, and came off as kind of cold or grumpy. AMAZING. My girlfriend and I had just finished a long hike at sleeping bear dunes and were ravishingly hungry. We stopped in at Stone Oven and expected mediocre food and a typical pizza place environment. We arrived to see that the pizza place was right next to Lake Anne brewing company which both had outdoor seating with live music.
