Average food with slow service. Menu with nice variety. A loud atmosphere that carries thru the restaurant. Acoustics bad. Limited seating. Last Saturday, we went there for breakfast. The 4 of us ( 2 locals, 2 out of towners) sat at the table nearest the entrance door. Across from us along the wall was a table for 2. A pair came in and sat there. There was no privacy...felt like the 2-some were in our conversation and we were in theirs. We could hear everything; so could they. 2 of us had 3 cheese Omelet. Cheese slices were not fully melted within the egg pouch! Felt like eating Kraft Cheese Singles from the package. Would not order that again! The server wasn't attentive. She didn't come back to ask how the food was. Had to flag her down. Had to ask for the bill. Also, food is overpriced.

Adorable place! Small inside area and all the tables were full. That’s a sign that it’s a great place to eat, but bad because the noise level was hard to carry a convo. Also, had a speaker behind my head that was playing beautiful Christian music but it was hard to hear clearly and just added to all the background noise. Next time we will sit outside if weather allows. The servers were working their butts off staying on top of the orders! No complaints there. My food was good. Probably would try something different next time. The menu had a lot of fun choices to pick from! Would go back, just not on a Saturday morning. 🙂

I ordered the Farmers Breakfast but they were out of biscuts, bummer. I did come shortly before closing. The waitress recommend the Dress up, she said it was their most famous sandwich. I got it just the way they made it and it was AMAZING! I could do with out the cheese, but it's perfection still. The chicken was steamy and fried perfectly. The sauce was the right amount of sweet. Very very delicious and totally worth the Hop off the freeway. Oh and the homemade chips were delicious!

When you walk in the door of the Open Door Diner, the first thing that confronts you is the Wall of Shame, a vast poster board of those unfortunates who were bested by Gramps Challenge, an intimidating breakfast heap if ever one was concocted. As of February 26, 2014, four noble souls had conquered the Gramps Challenge, and lived to achieve a Certificate of Achievement.

Vennia and James are the husband-wife team that have owned and operated The Open Door Diner for the last three years. They whimsically concoct creations that are a wonderful culinary grab bag, and invest their lives into their work, their community, and their world.

Trust me: don’t be afraid to order anything on the menu at the Open Door Diner on Main Street, Altamont. And allow yourself enough time to gab with the proprietors. You’ll be...

Elderly lady setting a table across from us to make sure she didn’t get charged for “ the glass of milk I never got and my bacon “ . When it came time to pay I asked for a check was told “ we don’t give checks you pay up there “. Ok now I’m at register and I ask for a receipt was told “ I can right you something out or email you one but it won’t be itemized” so I asked to see ticket waitress turned was told “no”. By now I’m bein treated like I did something wrong for wantin to make sure I wasn’t bein charged wrong or items i didn’t receive. In short who cares if food is good if you can’t leave feelin like you was fed good and treated with good customer service. My only question is how many people actually get over charged and not realize it. My suggestion in today’s world watch out for yourself and eat...
