I was staying in the area and saw that they had live music and decided to try the Loose Moose. Let's say there were a few opportunities with my experience. Vibe: It's a cute bar & grill - nothing fancy, but comfortable. The music was good and the two guys playing built a good rapport with the audience. I was much more happy to be there than in the main restaurant - Fredericka's Restaurant. Only because I was looking for a chill night and didn't want to be in a more formal environment. Service: Let me begin by saying - the bartender/server was super efficient and I didn't have to wait around for anything. With that said, she was doing the brunt of the work. There were a couple of girls helping out, but clearly a bit green and they needed some more training. (And I would note that one of them was eating French Fries behind the bar in front of customers and not washing her hands in between) As I sat at the bar and had a front row seat, one of the cooks came out a couple of times with questions on orders, but had to wait for my server/bartender to get their questions answered. Part of the issue was, she was running between the bar and Fredericka's. Food: Where do I begin - outside of disappointed. I had the Grilled Cheese Panini. Cheese - yes it had cheese, Grilled - not even close, as pale as pale can be, Panini - I think this was a thought at one time, but they clearly didn't use a true Panini press. The sandwich came with chips, but I was asked if I wanted to substitute French Fries and I eagerly did. However, when the bill came, it wasn't a substation - but a side order of French Fries. I am certainly accustomed to paying an up charge for fries these day, but not just getting a full side of fries. Loose Moose shares the same menu with Fredericka's and you can order off of their specials menu as well. I would have considered this, however, the specials menu didn't have any prices on it. I am not sure why a restauranteur would do this. There aren't many choices in the area, unfortunately. Perhaps next time I will just cook at my camp. Date of visit: 12 July 2023

Great restaurant for American food, but stick with the American food they serve. We got a 12’ pizza, a grilled cheese panini, mozzarella sticks, a Spinach Strawberry salad, a Veggie Burger, and the chocolate mousse. The mozzarella sticks weren’t anything special, they seem pretty similar to ones you could get at a grocery store. The pizza was pretty good. It had lots of cheese and a well cooked crust, but the size wasn’t enough for 4 people. The salad and burger were where they shone through. The salad was absolute sublime! The strawberrries and nuts paired extremely well their “Vidalia Onion” dressing, and they cooked the eggs perfectly. You wouldn’t think to combine the ingredients they did, but it was truly amazing. The veggie burger was also great. It tasted homemade, fresh, and flavorful, ad opposed to the artificial buns you would get at other restaurants. Nice hearty taste. 8.5

While staying at the Big Moose Inn and Campground, we checked out the Loose Moose. It is open until 9pm and we entered around 8:30pm. I never like coming to restaurants so close to closing time but the drive through Baxter State Park took longer than we expected. At any rate, we were still made to feel very welcome. We were brought a large bottle of cold water, and given menus for both the Loose Moose as well as Fredericka’s (the other on-site restaurant located in the same building). I ordered the Turkey Pot Pie ($16) which came with farm veggies and house baked turkey and topped with phyllo crust, and my wife ordered the Loose Moose salad ($9) with grilled chicken ($5). Our food was delicious and the service was great. Even though we made it out right at 9pm, I still never felt pressured to leave. Thank You!

My wife and I stayed at the Big Moose Inn for 3 nights while visiting Baxter State Park. The Inn is quite nice and the rooms are just fine for this remote area. Even had a small refrigerator that I was not expecting. The Inn has a nice lobby and a large screened in porch to enjoy as well as a couple of hidden porches to relax. The Wi-fi is really only available in the hotel lobby as the signal drops off quickly as you venture beyond and the connection speed is slower than dial-up 25 years ago. A bit unacceptable if you are going to advertise wi-fi. Young kids of the workers are jumping from couch to couch in the lobby! We ate dinner twice at this inn. The food was good, but the service and time to bring your order are unacceptable. The first night we ate in the dining room and the waitress did just fine while juggling us and the bar area, but the cook time was awful. The next night we ate in the bar and it took 1.5 hours to get a burger and lobster mac and cheese and we were one of the first ones in the bar. The waitress was completely inattentive the whole time. Needless to say the tip was zero this evening and we got a pizza from the convenience store next door for the third...
