Get a taste of Ames' new restaurant, El Patio. Opening last week, El Patio offers a new Mexican American food spot in West Ames. From the start, the inside feels refreshing and new with white leather seating. The decals on the inside are super modern as well. The chips and salsa were good. The salsa could have used a bit more kick. We had three different plates for this dinner. 1. Steak with rice, a full plate of rice, and steak with a cheese sauce and tortilla. It was really good, but the steak could use a little bit more seasoning. The steak tacos were super good. Topped with cilantro and onions, it really hit the spot. The last is enchiladas supreme. It was a really traditional take on the dish and really hit the spot. On Saturdays, the lime margarita in the rocks is only $5.99. However, I would probably skip it in the future. Today me the drink wasn't super strong, and to me, the mix seemed off. However, to my two counterparts, the drink hit harder. We will definitely be going back!

We soon moved outdoors to the wonderful patio overlooking the pond, minus the usual road noise of restaurant patios. The fun band, Jesse and the Medicine Men, quickly filled the patio and bar with patrons enjoying great music, efficient service and excellent food, and soon expanded to spontaneous dancing. El Patio Bar is much more than another Mexican restaurant in Ames. It's a friendly full bar, comfortable, casual indoor/outdoor setting, with a large, fresh, tasty large menu including authentic Mexican, Tex-Mex, vegan dishes and special regional dishes. We had delicious fajita burrito and enchiladas. We'll be...
Read moreThe way they redid the space is amazing. It really looks great in there. However the food and service did not match. I ordered the breakfast burrito which said it had bacon and sausage. It literally had cut up hot dogs inside. Not sausage that resembled hot dogs ... HOT DOGS!!! The side for my breakfast burrito was cold fries which tasted like the frozen kind you get at the store. My wife ordered a breakfast sandwich, which the menu said came on a croissant, but it came on sourdough, which she doesn't like. She would've ordered something different. And to top it off, all TVs were playing The View. Can we get West Towne Pub...
