The Moan & Dove — Restaurant in Amherst

After spending 4 weekends here in a row, I can say honestly that I would rather drink at a place that's closer to my job, even if The Moan & Dove is a two minute walk from my house. Casey is an excellent bartender. However, the bartender who worked on 5/13 was far more interested in playing awful music (there was a two minute song consisting of royalty free synths and strings along with bubble popping sound effects) and speaking very loudly about cryptocurrency to the patrons across the bar. I usually wouldn't be bothered by this, but when it was time to interact with me, after paying for two shots with a ten dollar bill, he asked "do you not tip?" It was around this time that I realized my money and everyone else's money would be too good here. The attitude and overall lack of inclusiveness is the reason why college students would rather stay in the crowded dives that are sprinkled throughout the Amherst and Northampton area, even if there was a nicely lit, reasonably sized bar not five...

The Moan and Dove is a nice place, tucked away just south of Amherst Center. As such, many of the people you would find in Amherst Center on a weekend, such as students, don't come down that far. The place is generally not full, but there aren't too many tables to have it fill up.

Love love love Moan and Dove. It's got such a good upscale dive vibe. Incredible selection of beer and the whiskey list has expanded in recent years. They always have sours and stouts on tap (my personal favs) and I hear great things about the IPAs and bottle list. Bartenders are very amenable and will take care of you.
