This place came highly recommended while staying at a place along Wayah road. Be prepared to wait because it’s a popular place among locals, regular travelers and tourist especially towards the weekend. They have extra parking space opposite the road where the bar and grill is located. Or you can park further out on the road and just walk a couple of steps.
So after waiting for almost an hour, we finally got a place and after seating us outside overlooking the lake, we had the waitress take our order. My husband and I both ordered the Friday fried fish that is an all you can eat and since we didn’t eat the whole day, we were both hungry after rockhounding the whole day. After we got our order, my husband who was really famished wolfed down everything.
Yes. That’s how hungry we were although I ate slower than him. So the waitress saw that his plate is empty and mine almost gone, she asked us both if we were ready for the second round and we both said yes. We waited for the food to come out. In the meantime, the gentleman who looked like he’s in charge of place asked if we’re still waiting for something so we said yes. Second serving came in a few minutes later and we started eating again. Meanwhile, our server was busy going back and forth serving other customers. She filled my husband’s glass with water but didn’t ask if I’d like mine also to be filled. I don’t mind since I can always ask if I need topping up my water glass. We waited again if she’s coming back to check up on us so we can place our last serving request, meanwhile, my husband went to the restroom. I tried to catch her eyes but I guess, I need to either call her or raise my hand for her attention, neither of which I did. When my husband came back, I told him that we just pay and head out. I told him to try to get her attention to get our check. Lo and behold! He didn’t even catch her eye, she just came behind and tapped his shoulder and said that she will get our check. Didn’t ask if we still need anything or offer any desert. We felt like we were practically being chased away so they can seat another customer. Food is great and we’re always willing to do long wait as long as it’s worth it. Won’t be back...
Read moreLakes End Cafe and Grill was recommended to me from someone answering a question I asked on a Facebook page about Wayah Road. Great little restaurant on the lake and on a beautiful road! When we arrived around midafternoon, the parking lot was full. Despite that, we were seated on the back deck overlooking the lake when we walked in. Shortly after being seated, our waitress came and got our drink orders.
All of the food I seen being brought out looked delicious! We all ended up ordering burgers and the couple with us got an order of the corn nugget appetizer (sauce was delicious). The burgers were made to order, cooked fresh and delicious! The owner of the restaurant brought the food out to us and then later returned to see how everything was. We mentioned to him about how good the ribs looked that were brought out to another table. He told us about them and also about the prime rib special they have on Saturday evenings. He surprised us a few minutes later with a small sample of the ribs and they were some of the best I have ever had. We will definitely be going back in the spring when they reopen for the season. The owner also told us about some cabins and yurts that he has for rent nearby and gave us some brochures. We will be planning an overnight / weekend trip to enjoy the yurts and prime rib!
I HIGHLY recommend Lakes End Cafe and Grill. We are from the Charlotte, NC area and it is worth the drive! The food is excellent as well as the service and atmosphere. You know you are at a quality restaurant that cares about you and your experience when the owner brings your food and is walking around checking with everyone about their food and...
Read moreNothing could have better, waitress and staff excellent, fried fish the best. - except the parking lot was insane. Would love to give it 5 stars. Couple of things. People park directly behind you in the front lot. You are blocked in. There is an overflow parking lot across the street. Our friends said this is how it works. So we go inside and ask the hostess very nicely, not once but twice to help us find the owner of the vehicle and ask them to move the red Jeep Wrangler. Now she was RUDE, like we were bothering her. I noticed a little annoyance from her when I used a debit card. We waited, and waited till my husband managed to wiggle our truck out of the space. What a way to destroy a beautiful dinner, unbelievable scenery during the drive, cute, clean restaurant with great fish. They could very easily have a sign that asks the patrons to let the hostess know they are blocking someone in the lot. Have to say we will be back for the Prime Rib! And this time we will play the “block...
