On our way home to Michigan from Iowa, We pulled off I-94 in the hopes of finding something to eat. Just as we were about to give up and go on we came upon the Purple Onion. What an extraordinary find. It was quaint and clean and just a happy place. The service was exemplary and the food..... oh my goodness!!! It was fabulous. We ordered breakfast and to our delight, everything was cooked to perfection. There wasn’t a drop of grease on the eggs or potatoes. Oatmeal was perfectly done. I always expect oatmeal that’s like glue but not there. We have told everyone who will listen that if they’re ever going that way to be sure to stop there. We travel to Iowa often in the summer months to visit our brother who suffers from Alzheimers and it eases the sadness of our trip to be able to visit the purple onion where we know we’ll get only the best. They will see my family and I every time now. There and back. Oh one more thing we each took a piece of pie with...
Read moreManny and I were here twice today. ...we had delicious breakfast early this morning on our way back from a doctor appointment in the QCA...Our food was really good and the service was great. .before we left we noticed that fried chicken was on the menu for today. ..well that's his favorite so we came back tonight. It was 7:15...we ordered our chicken. ....enjoyed our favorites from the salad bar ....and our coffee cups were topped off continuously by our waitress. The atmosphere was warm and friendly...Janet and her mother stopped by to chat....our chicken was prefect. Serving us that late meant these people were going to be late getting out the door but the quality of service was excellent and the smiles never wavered. Thank you for a very pleasant dining experience....I wanted to give you four and a half stars but there wasn't any way to do that.....why four and a half...well, if I gave you five you wouldn't have any incentive to strive...
Read moreThe Purple Onion is one of those hidden gems in a tiny town. The breakfast is great, the burgers are good, but what makes this place as amazing as it is are the people. Everyone is so friendly here! This trip I went for breakfast, it was packed with locals but there was still a table for me to sit. I went with the Country Fried steak with eggs over easy and hash browns, with a full order of biscuits and gravy. The Country Fried Steak was really good, full of flavor and not mushy. My eggs were a tad overcooked, but still runny enough that they weren't ruined. The biscuits and gravy are okay, the biscuits are soft and fluffy, but the gravy is lacking flavor. The raisin toast is always a good choice and make sure you get the honey butter!
If you have a bit of a sweet tooth, you won't regret trying a piece of homemade pie with your meal! I recommend coming here for good food and the small town feel of a restaurant that cares about...
