My wife and I had a quick date while our son was practicing baseball at the high school. The restaurant was clean, the staff were super friendly, and we were seated quickly upon our arrival. Our drink order was taken seconds after seating, and our beverages arrived very quickly. Our waiter was spot on. We never ran out of chips and salsa, and we never waited for refills on the drinks, as he appeared out of nowhere with fresh refills once the beverages were half full. If this review were based only on the service, it would be 5 stars easily.
I ordered the Bandera Burrito, with the three sauces, mimicking the flag of Mexico. The menu boasted about it being filled with shrimp, steak, and chicken. My assumption upon ordering was that the listed beans and rice, lettuce, tomato, and guacamole would be alongside the burrito. Upon arrival, to my surprise was that all the listed ingredients (including listed toppings) were inside of a huge tortilla, topped with the three sauces. Upon arrival, the plate looked great! The burrito was huge, and the queso, good grief! That stuff is suspect-fully flavorful. I could seriously down shots of that stuff all by itself. Back to the burrito, and the major issue I had with it. Upon slicing open the burrito, I found what I expected once it arrived at the table. The beans, rice, and shredded lettuce made up for about 90% of what was inside the burrito. There were a total of three shrimp, which were flavorful, a very small amount of thin pieces of steak, and a very small pinch of shredded chicken. There were small strips of fajita peppers and onions but very few. As mentioned above, the ratio was very unbalanced. Full transparency, I obviously know that the burrito would not be overflowing with shrimp. , chicken and steak, but at a price tag of just under $18.00, the amount of cheap-filler ingredients definitely did not justify the price for this burrito. This sticker shock is the reason for my mediocre score. All other aspects of our experience were 5 stars. Also, I may have to look into Queso rehab. I can’t stress enough how good that...
Read moreI'm very sad since this used to be one of our favorite places to come for dinner. I called for reservations for a group of 12 the night before we were going to be there since I didn't see the option of making it online. I also proceeded to call in the early afternoon to confirm the reservation and was told yes, they had it for 12 people at 6:30 pm. for Danielle. When we arrived, I was told they didn't have a reservation, and I probably called Cancun 1 by mistake. I double-checked and confirmed that I had not. The manager comes over with a bright pink sticky note confirming things had gotten messed up on their part, but at this point, there were no other options but to wait since all the tables were full. It's very frustrating to have to wait with a 3 and 5 year old especially after you had made reservations to begin with. The manager did give me a maragirata on the house but proceeded to use the excuse she had messed up because her focus that day had been on a 300-person catering job. Fast forward to getting seated after a 40 minute wait and my friend asks for cheese queso for the table do to their mistake at which point the manager comes back and makes me decide if I want the free queso or the maragirata she had already given me. At this point, I'm extremely disappointed that I was even forced to choose since it was an incovience for everyone. The bottom line is that this restaurant has become very overpriced and clearly has incompetent managers. Just like every other restaurant, portion sizes continue to go down while prices go up. Oh, and I almost forgot to mention this was also on my birthday to make the situation...
Read moreHorrible experience. We went out for my friend’s birthday, and wanted drinks and mexican food. I ordered a skinny margarita- and it came out super sweet, with a ton of orange juice in it. After taking a couple sips, i could not continue drinking it- it was the complete opposite of a skinny marg. I nicely requested to exchange it for something else and was told that I still had to pay full price for it and if i wanted, she could put it in a to-go cup and i could just bring it home with me instead. I said that I really did not want the drink and that I would not want to bring it home- since I did not like it. Instead of recommending something else to me, or trying to sell me a different drink- I was told that they would get me something else but I would still have to pay for the $20 margarita that I didnt touch. I ended up telling the manager that she could just throw it away, and because it already cost me $20, I didn’t end up able to order a different drink. Our server was next to nearly absent the entire time we were there, and it was clear that they didn’t care about their customers’ experience at all. *I should add that my friends & I are all bartenders & service industry workers, so we always try to be extra understanding and considerate when working through situations like this. Unfortunately, Cancun’s management & staff does not choose to operate in a similar way. I’ve never had an experience like this at a restaurant before. I’d definitely pass...
