We celebrated my daughter’s birthday at Cactus Canyon in Argyle tonight, and the entire experience was nothing short of amazing. From the very beginning, every staff member made her feel truly special.
Landon greeted us with a warm smile when he brought chips (and the most delicious salsa) to the table and immediately asked whose special night it was — such a thoughtful gesture. Our server, Robbie, was fantastic. Even with how busy the restaurant was, he stayed attentive, friendly, and on top of everything.
Both managers, Chris and Kay, stopped by to check on us. Kay went the extra mile by bringing my daughter a light-up “celebration bottle” to sit on the table, which let everyone around know she was celebrating — she absolutely loved it. The food was excellent, and when my daughter ordered a brownie with ice cream, it arrived with a sparkler on top, which made the whole table light up with excitement.
The owner, Brian, also came by not once but twice to personally wish her a happy birthday — and he even remembered the exact date she had told him earlier, which made her feel incredibly valued.
From start to finish, the team at Cactus Canyon created a birthday dinner that my daughter will never forget. Delicious food, genuine hospitality, and thoughtful touches made all the difference. We’re so grateful for the entire staff and can’t wait to come back!
———————— Cactus Canyon - Second Visit
I came once before with family near, A birthday bright with laughter and cheer. The staff made memories shimmer and glow, With kindness and care they let their hearts show.
Tonight I returned, this time on my own, And found at the bar a comfort well-known. The Poblano Queso, a velvet delight, Filet enchiladas — perfection each bite.
For dessert, indulgence, a sweet, frozen flame: Five layers of ice cream living up to its name. A Tex-Mex Old Fashioned, crafted with art, Perhaps the best ever to warm up my heart.
But what crowned the evening, what shone above all, Was a manager’s presence — attentive, tall. Seth, with a smile both gracious and grand, The kind of calm strength that steadies the land.
Tall, dark, and handsome, with effortless grace, He carried a warmth that lit up the place. Ensuring my night was flawless, complete, With service that made the experience elite.
At Cactus Canyon, they’ve mastered the blend Of food, drink, and kindness that time cannot end. Each visit reminds me, each moment I stay, That true hospitality still...
Read moreNestled in the heart of the city, Cactus Canyon presents itself as a vibrant Tex-Mex destination. However, my recent visit left me with mixed feelings, ultimately leading to a mediocre rating of 3.0 stars.
To kick off our meal, we ordered a medley of appetizers and main dishes. The guacamole, a staple of any Tex-Mex dining experience, sadly fell flat. It lacked the vibrant flavors one would expect, reminiscent of something straight out of a store-bought jar. This was disappointing, especially given the restaurant's promise of fresh, authentic ingredients.
The ceviche, which should have been a highlight, instead featured dry fish and shrimp that lacked the zest and brightness that characterize a well-prepared dish. Paired with overly salty tortilla chips, the experience felt more like a chore than a culinary delight.
On a more positive note, the egg rolls provided a refreshing twist. Their unique flavors stood out, and the accompanying sauces were a delightful complement that elevated the dish. It was a welcome surprise in an otherwise unremarkable lineup.
The beef taco was average, lacking the depth and complexity often found in traditional preparations. Meanwhile, the tortilla soup was perhaps the most disappointing dish of all. It had an unsettling consistency, reminiscent of baby food, with a gooey texture that made it difficult to enjoy. This dish needs a serious rethink if it’s going to be featured on the menu.
The ambiance at Cactus Canyon leaned towards the dark and moody, which may appeal to some but felt a bit oppressive to me. On the upside, the restaurant was immaculate, and the staff provided excellent service throughout our meal. However, the lack of reservations means that if you arrive during peak hours, be prepared for a lengthy wait — a common issue at popular eateries.
In conclusion, Cactus Canyon has the potential to be a standout Tex-Mex establishment, but it currently falls short in several key areas. While there are glimmers of originality and quality, such as the egg rolls, the overall execution leaves much to be desired. With a few adjustments to their menu and a brighter atmosphere, this restaurant could elevate itself from the average to the exceptional. Until then, I can only give it a lukewarm...
Read moreI have to give this a 3 at this point because of service with the hostess and it truly affected our whole experience and meal. We showed up put our name on the wait list for 6 grown adults. We were quoted 15-30 min which was absolutely no issue. I actually thought we’d be waiting longer. To our surprise, when we were sat down we were sat in a booth. A booth that comfortably sat 4, absolutely not 6 grown adults. Not to mention the table lamp that sat on the table with an enormous base leaving almost zero room for the two of us closest to the wall, no room for our plates. Two of us that were against the wall, literally had to sit sideways to be able to fit and my friends husband who was on the end had to sit with his leg out into the isle. At one point a waiter actually fell over him! Luckily he didn’t have anyone’s food or drinks in hand. We recognized this was going to be an issue immediately and I asked the hostess if we could possibly sit somewhere that could fit us and I was shocked when she rudely snapped at me and told me “you’ll be placed back at the end of the waitlist if you need a different table, they’ve been reserved for people that asked when putting their name in or making a reservation”. At that point my friends husband said “just forget it” because we weren’t wanting to be put back on the end of the waitlist and I couldn’t get words out fast enough as we were all a little taken back how incredibly rude she was. Not to mention we all caught her comment about reservations but their recording when you call says they don’t take reservations at this time and when we called to double check we’re told the same. There wasn’t even enough room on the table for all our dishes, we were eating like dinosaurs with trex arms and I was so hot and over it, I just boxed up my meal to go home. We’ll definitely give it another shot as all of us frequent MartyB’s and all his other restaurants, coffee shops, ice cream places etc but this wasn’t the best experience and it truly could’ve been totally different if the hostess would’ve sat us at a table that we could’ve fit and...
