Me and my friend drove by the place a couple times on a Friday afternoon. After reviewing the reviews online about W&Z Asian Bistro, we decided to give it a try because of the great reviews. Unfortunately, the reviews were really accurate in our experience. Once we arrived to the restaurant we were sat and given menus. The drink orders were taken and the server taken off. It was a long time before a server returned to us to take our order. There was not too much business but, it seemed like the servers were all over the place. After, we gave our food orders we waited for the food to arrive. I ordered a miso soup and my friend a sushi appetizer. The appetizers were very subpar and not too nourishing. It was also a long while before our main dishes arrive. We ordered 4 different entrees. Excited to try the food we tasted it but, it was so far below our expectation. The food didn’t taste authentic and lacked skill. We ordered two different dishes and yet we both had what tasted to be the same dressing on separate meals. Before even the first five minutes of sitting we were already having plates taken away. It truly felt like we were being rushed out. We barely finished the food and took it to go so, it would go to waste. The servers quickly taken our plates not really allowing much time to relax and enjoy our meal. For reference, we ordered beef udon, sushi appetizers, miso soup, orange chicken (to-go), broccoli with shrimp, and black bean sauce with beef. We had high expectations for the dishes and we greatly disappointed. We were also left without any spoons for our rice and when we asked the server didn’t bring it around until the second time. The server didn’t seem too friendly and didn’t really check on us. Our bill came to about 80 dollars which I think is too high for the quality and portion of the food. In honestly, there are lots of improvements to be made. This is just our experience I cannot speak for everyone but, I was disappointed in the food, price, quality, and service.

I have been eating at this restaurant since it opened, personally with all my family and large company events. Today, I talked to my server (very nice person, he was great) I said this is about 1/4 of the meat we usually get in the sushi. He went to the new "manager" He said they were running low on salmon, I said thats fine can I get a discount since there is barely any meat. I went to talk to the manager (some kid with blonde hair die) I told him about it, he said the same thing, they were running low on meat so they were skimping. I asked him for a discount on the meal, he literally told me "we filled it with other things" I said cucumber? He said yes, thats the bill, you won't get a discount. Dinner was 188 dollars for cucumber, avocado, and a tiny piece of meat. I will never do company lunches or personal meals there again.

UPDATE: 2nd visit here. Arrived with a large party. Most food was good. Service was decent except for two orders. One was late. Mine was wrong. I even pointed to the item I wanted but they brought a different dish. When they finally brought the correct dish (grilled chicken salad) long after everyone else was done, there was enough water at the bottom of the bowl to fill an Olympic swimming pool (see pics). First visit here. It wasn't too crowded at 6:30 when we arrived but, it was staying to fill up as we were leaving. Two dinner entrees, one appetizer and no drinks cost $54 including an 18% tip. Nice ambience, food was really good, service was good and they have decent size servings. Will have to go back and try their lunch menu.

We have been to this restaurant several times and have never had a problem until today. I ordered the mango spicy chicken, hot and sour soup, and my husband ordered 2 orders of sushi to go. The man who took our order repeated the order back to us, and then rang up the order. When my husband came home, the mango spicy chicken was missing from our order, so I called and spoke with a girl at the restaurant, explaining that we were missing the mango spicy chicken from our order. She apologized and said she would fix the order. I asked her if she could give us credit for the food, since we had been greatly inconvenienced and had to go all the way back down to their restaurant to pick up the missing food. She gave me to a male someone who was very unprofessional, and furthur fueled the situation. I tried explaining to him what had happened, but it was very apparent he was not interested in providing a resolution, nor was he interested in anything I had to say. He was rude, argumentative, disrespectful, and after yelling at me disconnected the call. We were horrified. My husband was furious that the guy was so rude to me so he called back asking to speak to a manager. Unfortunately the manager was the guy. My husband tried to have a civil conversation with him but it quickly escalated to a shouting match and another disconnected call. The behavior from staff and management was humiliating and unacceptable. We will never do business with them again, nor will we recommend anyone to patronize their restaurant.

ADDITION TO MY ORIGINAL COMPLANT: in response to the manager's response to my initial complaint...you obviously have me seriously confused with another unhappy customer. All I asked for was the correct order; the order I paid for. Yet you turned it into a very unpleasant experience for both me and my husband. Yes there was inappropraite behavior, but it was not caused by us or your staff; it was you. There WAS NOT ANY discriminatory language or any other in appropriate behavior towards you or your staff like you are alleging. You are making false accusations towards me and my husband and then you have the audacity to try to justify your behavior. It is pitiful and unacceptable, and anyone who knows us would tell you your accusations towards us are utterly ridiculous. The bank is another witness to your behavior. They substainted my claim and advised me they also had big issue with you during their investigation of my claim. It is really sad that you believe this is a smart way to do business. At this point, I'm done. I have nothing more to say to you, obviously common sense has fallen...

Hands down the best food I’ve had in years across the board. Every dish was perfect and I do mean PERFECT. I couldn’t find an issue with the food or the service if you paid me. The only thing even better than the food (if that’s possible) was the service. The entire staff was courteous, cheerful, and always ensured we were happy and had anything we needed, not to mention how tirelessly we saw them work. The chef even made me a fresh bowl of traditional garlic sauce for my assorted veggies and it was IMMACULATE. Now, for the meat and potatoes of this review. I have never in all my life written a google review. This is the first and for good reason. Not just because everyone in the white mountains would be remiss not to experience this cuisine and unmatched service but because Olen Pepple, the review below this one is completely erroneous. Olen, the rice was PERFECT, and I intentionally ordered Japanese dishes just to see if he was being cynical. He was. The rest of your family didn’t agree with you because you’re wrong, and your wife is ASIAN. I know because I checked his Facebook to see if it was just a bot with a name like Olen or a jealous sub par competitor. I will go out of my way to eat at the Asian bistro any time I’m in lakeside/pinetop/showlow for errands now. Heck I might just go out of my way. And Olen, just so you know, I tipped EXTRA tonight in your honor. These are hard working people who ensured we had a fantastic experience. Do better. Ps I plan on leaving a review every time I eat here now to ensure that terrible erroneous review is buried underneath...
