Affordable & large helpings. Decent coffee. Family owned & run. Skillet used to be in an old diner on the corner of Bowen & Division. Definitely needed upgrades. Service was good, wait staff friendly. Weekends would be PACKED. Like line out the door. Also had an early morning group of people that would be there at 5 am and eat & drink coffee for a couple of hours. Kind of place you liked because it was comfortable, but you wished it looked better. Fast forward to their new location up the street. Used to be an Italian restaurant- definitely not what Skillet "feels"like. A much bigger restaurant, same menu. They open at 5 and serve comfort food basically. The servings are always huge and most of the time the food is good. I usually ask for my bacon to be extra crispy, but not burned. I have gotten every thing from still oinking to flat out burned. The cook knows he's either putting semi raw or totally burned bacon on my plate and the waitresses can see what he puts on my plate - not acceptable at all. Most of the time it's fine. If you like firm scrambled eggs, tell them you want a hard scramble, but not brown. They do well on the over medium fried eggs most of the time (far better than Crackerbarrel). I don't recommend the pancakes or waffles - too dense & not a good flavor. Omelets are massive! I usually eat breakfast there, so I have not tried any lunch items, except the BLT, which is good. Bottom line - decent comfort food, reasonable prices, large portions.

Just had to come and update that this place is still great. Added more pics. I've returned a few more times & everything is so good. I finally got my fried porkchops yummm and i got Omar again. Such a good waiter. Previous review--> 2020 PRE COVID....So first off what in the military compound is going on here ? Lol the way it's enclosed with a military tank sitting outside was unsettling at first. I posted a pic of it on here. this is our first time visiting and things did not go so well however in the end it ended up being a pleasant visit!!! The inside looks like maybe a former banquet hall of some sort. The day we went to must have been a doozy they were out of so many menu items and so many tables were still dirty. When I ordered my porkchops and then later was told they ran out i was so annoyed I decided to leave but by this time of day we felt like any other place we went to would be closed or just about to close as well so we decided to stay and boy am I glad I did. Portions are great prices are great the food was great and our waiter Omar was fantastic!!! One of the best waiters ive ever had from any restaurant. No wonder they were out of food this place is jumpin!! Yummmmmm. Will definitely return.

My party of 4 went on a Saturday about 11:30am. We sat ourselves immediately. And had our drink order taken by one lady who told us our order will be taken by someone else. The person who sat after us got his food before we even placed our food order. Our food came 20mins later. It was a steady trickle of tables turning. The food was very basic. The Belgian waffle is exactly like the waffles you make yourself at a hotel that offers a continental breakfast. The hashbrowns were good and cooked with a light crisp edge. The pancakes were nothing special and lacked flavor. The French toast was like eating a fried egg on toast. It didn't have the custard soak batter most French toast is supposed to consist of. The picture with the egg bits next to it was part of the French toast. It was served cold not even warm enough for the butter to melt. Overall, it's over priced, very basic, and the food was over cooked and served cold. Our total bill for 4 entrees, coffee and OJ was $50. Will not return and will not recommend.

The Sunday that just passed (2/28/16) I was leaving church in Fort Worth to come back to Arlington. I take Division St. On occasion and have always wanted to try this place. It was even in my bookmark for restaurants I wanted to try. As my stomach was touching my spine I so happened to pass Skillet N Grill. Wanting to try a place I've never tried before I did a complete U turn just to try this little shack out.

I parked, looked around, then got out of the car. I walked into the restaurant and the very first thing I noticed was "the smell"; it smelled like pure mildew. It was super strong. I tried to ignore it, but it was in the back of my mind the 5 min I was there. The second thing I noticed was the carpet; which is where the smell originates from I'm sure of it. It was really dirty, I'm so sure they've never cleaned the carpet from the first day they opened. I walked behind a customer- first of all, the front layout is really confusing, there are no signs directing customers where to go or anything. So I stood behind this man who was ordering, probably to-go now that I think about it. It was my first time there so I'm not too sure. As soon as I stepped behind him, this Vanilla Ice wanna-be with vibrant blue basketball shorts and messy hair hopped his way up to the front and stared at me for a good second then looked away. No greeting, no can I help you? NOTHING! Not much later a couple walked in and they definitely got the greeting I apparently wasn't worthy of receiving!

As he was about to DIRECT them to a table I let him know that I definitely came in before them, and he says "oh just sit anywhere" nonchalantly, but still directed them to a table. It pissed me off so much, but I guess because it was a Sunday I was going to let it slide. I then walked myself to a random/weird side of the restaurant and sat down. I looked at the table and it looked like ceiling particles had fallen ALL OVER THE TABLE. So in other words, the table was dirty just like the carpet, just like the smell, just like the WHOLE restaurant. I looked over the table wondering what these random particles were for enough time for someone to bring me a menu and ACTUALLY GREET ME. No. One. Came. I hopped up walked out of that dirty/smelly place to never return.

I called the restaurant after I drove off to ask to speak with the manager. No wonder why her employees are terrible, so is she. I gave her a synopsis of my brief interaction with her restaurant and she had this nonchalant tone like Vanilla Ice did. I can tell she didn't give a rat's you know what, and because of that I became infuriated. Then she goes, "Well I don't know what you want me to do! Have a good day!" CLICK I called back and asked to speak to her again and her employee asked me "who's calling?" Like the manager personally knows me or something. I asked for a corporate #, and she stated there is none the manager owns it.

So in conclusion I will not be back to this raggedy restaurant. And I will also be calling the health department....

I went to Skillet & Grill yesterday for a honey moon breakfast. I love searching for family owned restaurants with decent reviews to try out for myself. Well when we first arrived we weren't sure if we wait to be seated or seat ourselves. They were busy and a young lady told us we could seat ourselves in a friendly manner. We headed to our table and a tall youngman was cleaning as we came along and came back to dry the table off in which I was empressed. Suzanne was our waitress. Considering how busy she was still had a smile and doing her job. No time for small talk in which to me is great sometimes especially in the case that she was busy. I was happy with her smiling and doing her job well in a timely manner (again they were slammed.) I have been a waitress before and understand how it is when busy. The food came out in a good amount of time and was absolutely delicious. The hash browns didn't taste like normal diner hash browns. They were better. Also the menu was awesome. I loved how they gave you the option of having french toast, egg, meat, and hash browns. Every where else don't give you options like that. You always have to add on. I got that one i believe. They had where you could get two pancakes, french toast (something else) with two eggs, two meat. That one you might have to add hash browns but its worth it. We also added sausage gravy and biscuit to our meals in which was good too. There was love put in the hash browns and the rest of the food. There was a younger man with dark hair and a Hispanic looking lady that was refilling cups of coffee all very friendly. Even a light headed guys who was being funny when pouring our coffee. Any ways while checking out with Suzanne she took the time to hear me out on my thoughts about service in which was amazing and the flow of everything was great. In other words they have a real good team work ethic in which made service flow real nice for how busy they were and still able to make you feel comfortable and great service. I will be coming back if ever in Arlington since i live in North Dallas. Thank you for the hostility...
