Having spent half my life in each, the the old and new world, I have witnessed that the mark-ups are much higher in the US, and that quality falls short at the same time, also due to a lack of good recipes, lost in the Atlantic Ocean, I assume. Especially the pie shells bear witness of an industrialized food processing; I cannot otherwise explain such shells. Btw pie shells ought to be made from yeast dough.
