Maharani — Restaurant in Ash Flat

We visited this restaurant all the way from Omaha, NE! As lovers of Indian food, it's always a gamble trying it in a small town, but Maharani did not disappoint! Even if you don't like Indian food, they still have plenty of American food options, like steak, burgers, and chicken fried steak to choose from. But as far as the food goes, it was great! Our food was spiced very nicely, it seemed like it was very authentic and they gave good portions. At first I thought I would need more, but it ended up being more than I could eat! So we had to take leftovers. We also ordered chai, which was served on a beautiful, traditional and ornate tea set fit for royalty. The one girl serving us was the most down to earth, friendly and hardworking lady. She was able to handle the entire place and made sure all of the guests were well taken care of. The classical images on the walls were beautiful and pleasant, not gaudy as some Indian restaurants sometimes have. Lastly, I had to make room for cheesecake, because...cheesecake :D and there were about a dozen choices for dessert. I went with the turtle cheesecake and it was delicious. If you're ever in this area, please give Maharani a try! We will definitely be going back when we are in the area again! My only wish is that they would get some paneer...

I’ve eaten at many Indian restaurants all over the country. I can cook many Indian fishes myself. I know Indian food. I’d eaten at the food trailer that preceded the restaurant. Their dishes were exceedingly hot/spicy. Even buttered chicken was hot/spicy (which its not supposed to be). I didn’t go back. But now they’ve opened the restaurant and felt compelled to try it. I ordered the tandoori chicken, but asked for sauteed onions and lemon slices with it, as thats the way it is usually seved. To my surprise it was excellent. They don’t even have a tandoor (clay oven). I also ordered saag, which is a spiced blended spinach dish. This failed miserably - couldn’t eat it. First time I ever had India food . The waitress, Jamila, was so helpful and knowledgeable. She took the time to explain all the different dishes. The food was wonderful, lhad lamb and potatoes and it was so tender. I had never had lamb, it was good!!! Jamila even offered us a sample of a pumpkin desert. Not being a pumpkin lover we declined. We ask for containers, because you get large portions. WELL!! Jamila ask ifi wanted her to put the food in the containers for me!!!!
