Marble Slab Creamery — Restaurant in Athens-Clarke County Unified Government

My wife ordered the heavily-advertised (huge posters all over) "Turtle Ice Cream & Cookie." Oops, we're out of turtle ice cream.

So we decided to split a banana split. Oops, we're out of strawberry ice cream. So I substituted pistachio. Oops, we're also out of chocolate. So I substituted "dark chocolate." After finishing his baking (this is also a cookie place), our server finally prepared our highly modified banana split.

But where's the chocolate syrup? Oops, we're out of chocolate syrup (however, at my insistence, he was reluctantly able to scrape a little out of the container).

Can I have two spoons? Oops, we're out of spoons (however, at my insistence, he was reluctantly able to find a new box).

I noticed that the whole theme of this place was cold-slab-prepared ice cream, and there was indeed a refrigerated marble slab behind the counter. However, there were absolutely no menu offerings involving cold-slab-prepared ice cream.

As we left, we thought we had just visited The Twilight Zone.

Didn’t know we had a Marble Slab in the Athens area again so I was super excited to try. The reviews were off putting especially considering it’s such a new location but I decided to still try it. Similar to another review, the customer service was sub par. We weren’t greeted upon entering, none of the staff even cracked a smile, and act as if they didn’t want to be there. The toppings did NOT look fresh AT ALL. The marshmallows were all clumped together almost in a hard ball, the cake pieces were tough, and the worker barely mixed the toppings in. The actual ice cream itself, the banana pudding ice cream, tasted GREAT. But the toppings looked like they’d been sitting out for days. Checking out, he rang us up and didn’t give me a total. Just kind of stared until I looked down at the tablet and saw the total and then paid. I don’t think I’ll be back to this location. It sucks because we haven’t had a marble slab creamery in years and it lacked Marble Slab quality on almost...

🍪 Being able to sample flavors made choosing so much easier, and the checkout process was quick and seamless. The staff was friendly, the treats were delicious, and I’ll definitely be coming back for more.
