This used to be our favorite spot my mom and I eat out at this place when we had some extra money to have a good meal. But sad to say I'm giving this place a 1 star. They must of changed owners because it was all different faces and a different cook that didnt care how he was handling the food. And a prissy blond that snapped at my mom for refusing to give us our money back. We ordered 2 scallop dinners our favorite meal that we order. And for first time ever we could not eat the scallops they were cold and soggy and had a bad taste to them the breading would fall off the scallops cause of grease and slim. The onion rings were very thin and flimsy and sweet potato fries used to be crinkle cut now there hard sticks. And the girl had a lot of nerve to snap at my mom and refused to give us our money back. We were so upset cause we lost 50 bucks and went home hungry. We only go out once in awhile when we have a little extra money to have a good meal at our favorite spot. Well not no more not after having soggy cold scallops, losing 50 bucks, and going home to eat toast and peanut butter. I miss the father and his son they cared about there customers and about the quality of there food. So otheres out there reading reviews listen to the other 1 star...
Read moreThis southerner has located the perfect lobster roll. OMG, so glad we had the chance to get a lobster roll here. We were dropping our daughter off at school, so we stayed in Auburn for a couple nights. By the time we were ready to eat, it was half hour before closing. So I called and asked to get take out. They were super nice and friendly on the phone, and our food was ready in 10 min.
We all got the clear meat lobster roll (small) and sweet potato fries. The fries are crinkle cut and perfectly sweet/savory with just the right salt. The lobster rolls had a ton of fresh, delicious lobster meat and fresh lettuce on what kind of looked like Texas toast- like a thick soft piece of buttered grilled toast. Sooooooooo good. The small one was very rich and totally satisfying. I imagine the large is kind of a "you can't have too much of a good thing" scenario.
And the place itself is a really cute little roadside shack, with a little counter inside where you can sit if you want, and ample outdoor seating.
I will be thinking about this lobster roll for a long time when I get back to Virginia, and trust that when I'm back in town to visit my daughter, we will come back to Mac's. I really can't imagine a lobster roll being any...
Read moreConvinced by reviews on reddit to go here instead of the "tourist" spots with the long lines . The signature large Clear Meat lobster roll was cold and soggy with small amount of rubbery claw meat only . The Fried Scallop was sent back because they were cold and soggy . Unapologetic they offered to make a fresh order . That next batch of scallop was just gross . Sitting in a puddle of dirty oil and barely holding on to any breading . One bite and omg soo bitter and salty . I've never in my long life had such a bad tasting piece of selfish. The Haddock chowder had no chunks of fish and undercooked potato , a sheen of seperated oil atop it . Supremely dissapointing . If the seafood in the photos from the "tourist" spots tasted just a fraction as good ad they look .... I'd gladly wait The hour or two in line next time elsewhere . MAC'S you should shut the doors and stop bringing shame to the Maine...
