People tend to throw the word “authentic” a lot when referring to this establishment. Besides the Coke in a bottle, nothing else is. I drive up and down the 5 a lot and I read about this wonderful taqueria in Kettleman City that I had to try. Today was that day and WOW was it disappointing. It was late and the place was empty. 1 star for being open 24/7. I ordered 4 tacos, a regular burrito and a asada torta to go. Figured I’d score brownie points with bringing “authentic” food home for my wife and I to enjoy. $37 dollars later I was out the door. There was no “super” anything. Regular tacos, regular burrito and regular torta for $37?! If I didn’t know any better, you’d think you were in DTLA or the Bay. Anyway, got home and was disappointed in every way. The meat has absolutely NO flavor. The salsa had a small kick but nothing that added to the flavorless tacos. I even tried drowning them in lime to help with taste with no success. Another star for the guys working who were friendly but not much else. The interior is in par with the location, nothing fancy. I did not use the restroom so I can’t comment on that. If you’re in a pinch in the middle of the night, this might be your savior but honestly, you’re better off across the street at...
Read moreWe passed through at 3:30pm, between conventional meal times. Other than the staff in kitchen and behind the counter there was only one other person there. For that reason we chose to eat inside as usually we don’t eat indoors during the COVID-19 pandemic.
Our food was made fresh. I had the quesadilla grande with chicken. It was delicious and well spiced. The price was a little steep but inflation is making everything expensive. The air conditioning worked fine inside and it was quite comfortable. Everything appeared clean though our table could have used a wipe-down. We would definitely stop there next time looking for food at the Kettleman City off-ramp of I-5, as I prefer to support independent restaurants and not chain fast food places if I can help it. I’m intrigued that the restaurant appears to be open 24-hrs a day. I’m not usually driving by here in the late hours of the night but I would try it if I were and needed a...
Read moreStopped for 30 minute break after driving for hours. Saw this place and thought ok let's try it. Walked up to the door everything is in Spanish. No English translations anywhere. The menu was difficult not knowing any Spanish. So went with burritos knew that word. We ordered to burrito Supreme 1 no bean with beef 1 with everything and chorizo. 2 glass bottled cokes. Total was 31.01 when we got our order mine was fine, But my spouse I have no idea what his was looked like a grand of some sort definitely not what we ordered. The lady at the register wasn't all that friendly.
Not so sure we will try this place again. They definitely don't make you feel welcomed. For what we got the prices were expensive. And we weren't offered a...
