The Hen's Nest — Restaurant in Bandera

A few months ago I left this business a bad review. Because they did bad business. I ordered a sandwich on the phone I told them I don't like soggy bread. I was on my lunch break and promptly picked up my sandwich. It had soggy bread. They said they don't carry lettuce but had spinach. So I agreed & said it was fine... because I was going to try to eat it anyway. I was choking on this sandwich. I had to just trash it and remain hungry for several more hours. This was in October 2024. Well it is March 2025...today I thought I would give this little business another try. Because I do enjoy to support small businesses. I looked at the reviews first. Some gal named Shelly did a tit for tat reply. Even mentioning where I had worked at that time. Saying the sandwich was fine basically calling me a liar in her reply. Also telling me to tell the owners wife where I worked at the time hello. So not only did Shelly make me look bad to my then bosses family and associates. Plus calling me a liar in her reply back. All you had to do was offer to make me another sandwich or offer to refund me my money. I called her and spoke with her today Shelly. She told me I shouldn't leave such a petty review in a small town. Then we got into an argument over the phone after she called me petty and I called her out her name too. I hung up on her. Then she tried to call me back. I ignored the phone call. I told her I had to choke on the sandwich and she told me basically again that I was a liar and I didn't have to choke on my sandwich and I didn't throw it away. She wasn't at my job watching me choke on the soggy sandwich. Be careful leaving this business a bad review because they might just go and try to ruin your reputation around town. Instead of taking accountability. Or being Professional. So now instead of just giving me my money back or just making me a new sandwich you're going to lose a lot more money. That is on you Shelly. All I wanted today was to give your business a chance again but no way am I going to allow you to serve me. Other people need to know about this circumstance also. Oh also the amount of pepper I used on my sandwich after I paid with my money for me to eat is none of your business. You mentioned even me putting so much pepper on the sandwich I ruined it in your reply to me. It is not your business how people like their food seasoned. All of this over a $10 sandwich! Oh & Shelly I have a screenshot of your reply to me as a business owner; before I erased it. Plus I recorded our phone conversation. I will give you a chance to publicly apologize to me as long as it is in front of all the people you bashed my name to. You have zero clue with whom you are attempting...

I really wanted to give a better rating because the lady serving us was such a sweet person. Additionally we read all the wonderful reviews about this place. Arrived before 10am on a Sunday, many open seating options after you order from a board on the wall (awkward and wasn’t expecting to make a decision on the spot being our first visit). Without explanation nor acknowledgement we sat for over 30 min before our food came out without silverware but that was ok because it was already cold when the plate was sat in front of me. I ordered a waffle sandwich....it was a cold soft waffle on top and a soggy warm bottom with undercooked bacon(cold), a hard fried egg (ordered scrambled), a fresh avocado and a cold slice of cheese....garnished with what looked and tasted like frozen potatoes cold of course. My husband had shrimp and grits and other than the temp being slightly cold he said they were quite tasty. We skipped dinner last night and we were so hungry we ate it all. No reason what we ordered should have taken over 30 min. To come out, they did not look busy with other than the two of us, a two top, a four top, and a one top there. Our food was like it had been sitting for 20-30 not even under a hear lamp. So sad because we had such high hopes. Maybe the kitchen suffered no help this morning but still they all acted like this was a busy moment.

I believe you are mistaken, we sat alone and were not with a group of 8. No one reheated our food nor came to our table after we were served. It looked like a large party came in as we were waiting to pay and a few more prior to them keeping our server “stuck” at the register and not tending to her tables. As previously mentioned, I so wanted to be able to leave an excellent Review. I don’t often leave poor ones, only when my experience is very poor. I expect others to review honestly and take some with a grain of salt if they come across too picky but do appreciate honesty. There was only one lady and one young man serving tables and running the register, never saw another employee in there so maybe the to-go orders were more than just the two of them could handle with walk in business as well. As far as the ordering process, possibly larger print or paper menus to hold could help?! With such a diverse menu and plenty of options it would also be nice to sit and read through the entire menu (get off my feet) while enjoying a hot/cold beverage and a little more time to make a decision. I hope you are not offended by my honesty but use information from reviews to make changes as needed. I meant no disrespect to you nor to either of your two...

This was my second time visiting the Hens Nest. My husband and I were originally going to get it to go because we have our 5lb Chihuahua Byrdie with us. When I went in to make an order the gentlemen let me know they do not do to go on the weekend. They were very busy so I understand. I told him we were only doing to go because we had our doggie with us. He said if they are well behaved they can come in. When I told my husband we were both excited and took her little bed with us and put it on one of the chair. It had been a while since I had been there but it seems cozier. Maybe it was the light designs. Quickly people starting asking about Byrdie and our waitress even brought her a treat.

We were both very hungry and had some trouble deciding what to get. The eggs are so soft and fluffy and the bacon was crisp and yummy. Everything was delicious. I do wish the waffle was crispier but the flavor of everything was amazing.

After our meal we checked out at the little shop next door and I spent so much money on little outfits for Byrdie. Since she is so small even an small usually doesn't fit. I went a little crazy. All in all we had a wonderful time and we can't wait to...
