We're local and have been coming to Skytop and The Taproom for eight years. Love Skytop overall btw, so don't let this dissuade you from visiting or staying there, as there are several other food options, including one very nice NYC-standards restaurant just down the hill in Canadensis.
For the past 8 years, The Taproom would never win any culinary awards, but it was OK for pub food.
No longer! :-(
Last night we ordered:
Fried Calamari Roasted Brussels sprouts Tofu stir fry Smokehouse burger Chicken fingers and fries for the kid
All practically inedible.
The fried calamari was so salty, it's like the salt shaker lid came off in the kitchen and encased the squid like a salt mine.
The Brussels sprouts were like they had been sitting around for days and nuked in the microwave.
The chicken fingers, which are on the kids menu, were spicy. For kids!
The tofu stir fry may be been stirred, but the tofu bore no resemblance to being fried. Limp cold cubes of tofu. Served on cold rice. Really awful.
The fries on the side of the smokehouse burger are some of the worst I've every had. Tasteless.
The burger itself, ordered medium rare, was served bloody rare, and had a small dollop of BBQ sauce hiding somewhere in the bun.
Why didn't we send it all back? We should have, but we had a time constraint and needed food. All this plus tip was $100 for such disappointment.
Advice to Skytop management: figure out why The Taproom food has declined so precipitously and do something...

The Tap Room at Skytop was, without exaggeration, one of the worst dining experiences I’ve ever had. It felt less like a restaurant meal and more like punishment.
The chicken wings were bone-dry and flavorless — like they’d been sitting under a heat lamp since last weekend. The salmon? A tiny, shriveled sliver of fish so overcooked and dried out it could’ve passed for jerky. And the burgers? Disgusting. Cooked on a greasy, unclean grill, with a burnt, foul-smelling patty that tasted like it had absorbed every charred scrap from a thousand bad meals before it.
Everything tasted like stale leftovers reheated without an ounce of care or basic culinary decency. Absolutely no seasoning, no quality, no pride — just a slapdash mess of old, dead food.
Shame on whoever let this out of the kitchen. Avoid this place at all costs unless you’re nostalgic for the taste of regret and burnt...
Read moreWe were seated by hostess.it took 15 minutes for a waiter to acknowledge us . When he finally came to us he simply said what would you like. At that point we should have left. My wife’s drink was awful - Hardly any alcohol and for the prices charged - it was embarrassing. Our lunch was not very good. We would have said something if we could find our waiter. Bus people cleared our table after we were done. About 10 minutes later the waiter dropped our check on the table and said absolutely nothing. I think management should replace this waiter - he has no personality or knowledge of waitering. We spent 75 dollars on a lunch that was an...
