If you have been traveling up and down Brunswick Road over the years, you know the building. This was the Brunswick General Store and had a barber shop and the Brunswick post office in the back on of the building.
Times change and the building changed ownership and names. It became a couple of operations including the Brusnwick Kitchen. However, the name had was registered with the state and can no longer be used. So it is now Trudies Catfish Cabin.
Oh, how I wish they made a good pizza and served beer. We really need this in the area!
This isn't the first time I've been here and I'll return. However tonite, I'd like to highlight the Catfish Tacos. Three tacos for $12.99, and folks these are a better deal than many other places fish tacos. The three of them are a meal by themselves. I was with a three others tonite, and for all of us, the three tacos apiece was more than enough.
For the two of us, our bill was $35.00 and consisted of two orders of fish tacos, drinks, and one order of french fries for the table.
As for the Tacos:
First off, these folks are using a nicely cooked catfish filet. It has only a few topping including a secret sauce that does not detract from the taste of the fish.
Second off, the tacos were soft and flaky, and the server said these were made on site.
Our server tonite was a young man and he was taking care of business; he would have made Quark the bar keeper proud.
Lastly, this is a quiet place. The TV was on a basket ball ball game. Tonite the music was generic soft jazz. Sometimes in the afternoon its on an R&B channel for the music. The music sits in the background and doesn't interrupt conversations. The interior is softly decorated amd comfortable.
There are two photos that go with this review: Front Door, Fish Tacos
While this is not a five star establishment, as nothing disrupted the dinner giving a 5 star rating.

Read moreWe went to Trudie's on a Friday night just before 8pm. They close at 9pm & we were hoping that we could get a seat without waiting since it was the weekend. Surprisingly, only one table in the entire restaurant was occupied by a couple. A sign of things to come.
The server greeted us at the door asking if we were ordering to go. In spite of her implication that she'd rather not serve us, we ate in.
We each went with the catfish plate. Plate 1: fried fish, cole slaw, fried okra. Plate 2: fried fish, macaroni & cheese, onion rings. The waitress returned to say they were out of cole slaw; I ordered collard greens instead. She returned to tell me they were out of okra; I ordered onion rings.
Let me go ahead and say right out of the gate, the catfish was 5 stars. We did have to ask for tartar sauce & were given a tiny plastic cup each. Not nearly enough. Again, the fried catfish was delicious!
The sides were awful. I don't mean they weren't good in comparison to the fish, I mean they were awful. The onion rings were horrid. They were battered in something like bread dough which was dark brown all the way through to the onion. The absolute worst I have ever had. We couldn't eat them.
The mac & cheese was old and dry. The collards were cold. They were also full of chopped stems, which I don't like. Our plates also came with hush puppies, which were doughy and disappointing.
If the restaurant survives, we'll try again earlier in the evening and when there are more people. Perhaps it was just a not-so-good night for them.

Read moreWe stopped in on a whim. We'd eaten at the previous establishment in the same location. We happened to stop by on Sunday for their Sunday Buffet. The buffet was amazing. All the dishes were fresh, offering the Sunday dinner staples of a warm, family meal. Fried catfish, fried chicken, greens (sorry, I've never been a fan of greens), chicken and dressing, green beans, mashed potatoes, and corn on the cob. In addition, the server provided rolls and cornbread. Everything is fresh and homemade. The cornbread was delectable - it was like eating the lightest and fluffiest cake. Even the green beans were delicious and full of flavor. For dessert, Mrs. Stephanie, the owner, brought out a strawberry cheesecake - also, homemade. I have never had better cheesecake. It was light, sweet, and delicious. It wasn't too rich, but it still had that signature cheesecake flavor. I would highly recommend trying this wonderful restaurant. You will not be disappointed. An amazing restaurant, with amazing hospitality and service, offering more than just good food. Do yourself a favor and stop by to see Stephanie and the family and staff of Trudie's. You'll leave with a full stomach, as well as...
