We had a reservation for Valentine's day for 7pm. We showed up promptly at 7pm. And did not get seated until 715 at a dirty table that we sat at for at least 5 minutes before someone came over to wipe it off.
Now coming from a background in resteraunt work I understand it being a holiday, that possibly all tables were full, and that the staff might not have been seasoned and the kitchen might have been short staffed as well. That being said there are a reason for customers to write reviews.
So we got our drinks, ordered shortly after, then proceeded to wait. Others came in with reservations that weren't able to sit as tables weren't cleared off etc. We ordered around 725 and we ordered fish n chips and chicken alfredo. Our food didn't come out until nearly 820. There was no time in between where waitresses came to the table to check in about the wait for food only to see if we wanted nother drink (cups still half full). And the food was barely warm and no flavor to the alfredo. But a positive the fish, batter and fries were delicious.
Being observant I noticed the tables that ordered before or while we were standing at the door waiting for a table at 7pm. We got out 2 dishes before them... not cool. I was so uupset I could barely eat. Another family of 4 had waited nearly an hour and a half. As I overheard.
With all of this being said I kept hearing the waitresses offer discounts, comped meals, apps, deserts and drinks to customers. When our slips came there was no discount or offer to comp something.
We then promptly got our cards ready to pay and set them at the edge of the table only to watch the wait staff ignore and one of them made out with a boy at the front counter. I got up brought sips and cards over to them. And once we were walking out no one said a word to us.
I was really baffled at the service. I had heard so many good things about this place but I am not sure I would recommend or come back to the carriage house. Which is really sad. I hope staff and owners see this review and reflect on what could change to ensure...
Read moreI think we caught this place on an off day, but for a first experience, it sucked. We went for breakfast and the place was busy. We were quickly seated and a very pleasant server took our drinks order, but then it was downhill. It took a month of Sundays before someone came to take our food order. The server was a different one, and she made a comment that we’d been waiting long enough, which we had. The original server came over and said it was her table, only to be told by the second server to do the table behind, even though it was hers anyway. We felt super uncomfortable. Furthermore, it was only when we wanted to order were we told that many key items on the menu were no longer available. Why on earth were we not told when the menus we handed to us? The nonsense continued, as we had to wait around 50 mins for the food to arrive. The original server was apologetic when we asked where our food was. She pointed out that her colleague who took the order should have told us there was a 45 minute wait due to staff illnesses, but in fact, we would have expected her to have told us when she first seated us. The food was fine, nothing wow, but not garbage either, so I won’t dwell on that. The icing on the cake was when the checks came. We asked for two split checks which were fine, but when I came to sign the card payment, both checks were on one payment. Of course, each server proceeded to blame the other. Don’t get me wrong, the server we had was very pleasant, but backbiting your colleagues to customers is not acceptable, especially total strangers. All in all, we were incredibly disappointed and doubt we will be back and won’t be recommending this place to...
Read moreWe stumbled across this restaurant quite by accident. We were staying on Lake Willoughby and were in search of a few things for our snowmobiles. We decided we would bring back breakfast for our ladies and enjoyed a coffee while the server had our breakfast made to go. (And I do not remember her name- but little details like asking if we needed silverware- MAKES ALL the difference... because we certainly did need silverware). Great atmosphere and great food. As we were leaving there was a tiny little spot of ice on the way out and I made mention to a pair of older gentleman inside just to be careful as they leave. Well, turns out the owner (Bonnie I believe) was sitting at a table nearby and literally followed us out the door to make sure it was all good and salted. We ended up talking for a bit about Jeeps and that she had owned the Carriage house for about 5 years. Very nice lady! We liked the takeout "breakfast" so much- we all ended up coming back for dinner that night after a long day on the trail. We called and were told seating would be pretty late (7:30) but Morgan (maybe? cannot remember) said if you were to come right now they could fit us in. Boy are we glad they did. Every single thing we had for dinner was cooked perfectly and tasted great. We ended up with dessert to go and that also was great (and again asked us if we needed silverware) a smooth running establishment with a lady who cares about her place and her Patrons who wouldn't want to go there? We will make a trek back again...
