Unfortunately, the place is old and crusty. It's more reminiscent of a local dive bar in small town America. Dark and dingy.
The food is mediocre at best. And based on the name of the place, you would expect a bigger seafood selection. But it's very limited, and nothing my husband would have ordered.
So he had chicken wings, which were overcooked but edible. I had the grilled chicken sandwich. Again, edible but plain. Mine came with fries, which were freezer burned, crinkle cut, no name fries. And though the food seemed to come out quickly, it certainly wasn't hot. I know some people are thinking, "why not send the food back?" But if I did that, I would have just left and not bothered.
Service was good. We have seen our waitress at a number of different venues, and she has always been great! She recognizes us whenever we run into her.

Read more(EDIT: y'all, I have visited, ate and socialized at this legendary restaurant over 20 times at least since I did this review. CHARLIE'S ALWAYS ROCKS, ALWAYS TASTES BETTER THAN ANYONE ELSE and ALWAYS HAS THE BEST ATMOSPHERE OF ANY RESTAURANT OR NIGHT SPOT ON THE LAKE; the entire lake. Period. Come this Saturday, July 2nd at 4 pm and see if I'm telling the truth. I will be there so you can tell me if I'm lying. See you there.) = WELL now lemme tell ya.....cranberry & soda by the fire, a near-full moon past, Jerry Lee Lewis in conversation & then on the television; the first time I ate real spagetti w. real bread & a dinner salad w. the 'house' ranch dressing - well, now I know it can get kinda scary leaving home on such a cold night as this..........and then there's Maria, Paige and the chef of chef's (and fellow diners you feel at 'home' with. And...
Read moreI'm giving it three stars only cause the waitress was very nice and attentive. The atmosphere is dark and waaay outdated.....The food deserved 1 star because the salad bar was "ok" The catfish platter itself was over priced and not very good..it consisted of 3 small over cooked headless catfish with more bones than meat...a cold loaded baked potato..and there is nothing worse than trying to melt butter on a cold tater...3 hush puppies that were burnt crusty chunks..so all in all we will not eat there again and will tell everyone we know. BTW We read the reviews before we went and the only reason I can think people gave it such high regards is either because they are regulars that live close by, or it's the only seafood close by or they drink so much that they're taste buds are drunk... honesty is...
