I just fined there a hour or so ago and the owner who I have not met Jimmy, his niece was working at the bar. She gave a good service, yet was resentful when I gave in a communication with her as a brand new resident from Chicago being here in East Lansing. I was in walking distance when my intentions was to go at the liquor store nearby. Instead I seen the Jimmy’s restaurant and figured “Hmmmnn, let me check this place out instead, I’ll go to the liquor store at the plaza some other time.” I was not rude nor offensive at the slightest but when I speak to her about the place I get a funny yet resentful look through the corner of her eye as if I’m a burden of something. No customer should feel that way walking in an independent restaurant their first time. Yes I did tip the owner Jimmy’s niece at the bar ten dollars from the total received as I do if not more at any place but I did not deserve that kind of vibe from her. The other veteran worker, Joe who had been there for quite a while according to him encouraged me to meet Jimmy and possibly find an open position to work there since he overheard my situation about looking for a job. Joe boasted about how great the owner is to his co-workers and how the team work together and looked at each other as equal. I saw different through the look on not only her, but two others outside of Joe which was another blonde girl and a blonde male with slick hair. I did not feel welcomed by them except for Joe who was nice and insisted I should work there as a pizza guy. I’m big on body language and I personally did not feel welcomed there as a new resident from Chicago to East Lansing, Michigan. I’m only walking distance from the place and at this point I don’t feel comfortable going at Jimmy’s because of it. Why should I arrive at a place where family work at but have a family relative cut their eyes at me like a burden. I did not do anything but be polite to her but she was quick to take my money in a quick flash. Coming from Illinois, I have been to dine-in restaurant where they we’re welcoming but have not looked at me as inferior. So far, this has been the first within a full day being in East Lansing & it disgusts me that social prejudice still exist in bars and restaurants. I stay right alongside Jimmy’s and I wanted to arrive again for the breakfast menu options that Joe who work there brag about. Instead I get this weird notion and it’s confusing. There are blacks who are darker if a shade lighter than me I saw working there I have seen but I do not know them. The point I’m making is after I paid, even before I get a weird attitude and a bad vibe for no reason from the owner Jimmy’s niece and that’s not right. Being the only single black customer at the front bar among the whites should not make me feel like I’m a criminal when I had one guests like me being the nicest person there and actually bought a drink for me as a gesture and HE does not even work there. My point is being considerate and genuinely kind goes far and I am big on body language. If I am such a burden as a TALL BLACK MALE with bass in his voice, then I will not set foot at Jimmy’s again to try any of their breakfast omelets or anything else in the morning menu that I deep down wanted to try. Sad to say that the only thing I had was the Jumbo Wings which turned out good but Jimmy’s unfortunately lost a regular customer and possibly a great friend as a worker there with potential who is looking for a job close by where I do not have to travel far distance to get there. For what it’s worth it was not bad but I refuse to pay any more money in an establishment where members of the team there make me feel as if I don’t belong there. I only spent one day in Michigan and this is what I get. I dealt with enough of this kind of service coming from Chicago and I figured to myself “Hey let’s start over,” except I became a burden for whatever reason. Funny thing is I did wanted to meet the owner Jimmy in person but again, not in that sort...
Read moreWent to this location with 20 co workers for a after work drink / food.
(First server contact 10 minutes after arrival) Placed my order of a Jimmys Special and Fries + Bud Light for the drink
Drink arrived 10 minutes later.
about 10-15 minutes later the rest of our group has all their orders in.
30 minutes from that point my co workers are enjoying there food.
About 15 minutes later my friend who noticed I was still waiting inquired about my food. The server came and talked with me. I informed her of issue how I didn't get my food and she said she could get it in for me. I told her not to as I wasn't going to wait another 30 minutes to be left eating by my self as my co workers would be done. She asked if I would like to speak with a manager where I said no.
2 minutes later the manager is here to talk to me. I didn't want to talk to him. I hate confrontation. But I talk with him let him know what happened he apologized and said he's not trying to make excuses. But this statement was followed by excuses saying the server was new and there was a lot of people. Well he asked if he could replace it for free. I said no. He contuned to ask if he could replace it for free and I contuned to say no. I was at this point set on getting food else where. as well I was about to leave as I other things to do in life then wait for food.
So the reason I gave this location 2 stars is I spent over 1 hour there and didn't get to eat any food that I ordered. The staff didn't follow any of my requests (Placing Order, Saying No I don't want to talk to the manager, and the manager repeatedly asking me a question I have answered).
The staff was very polite though. I give them that. And that's what saved them from me giving...
Read moreIt was one of the worst experiences I have ever been apart of. I was having a rough day and decided to grab a drink and some food. I showed the bartender my valid New York State Drivers License which is not expired by the way, yet it is pretty beat up. At the time I did not care what I wanted to drink so I just said something strong. Another lady comes up to me at the bar who was the apparent manager and asks me what I would like to drink and to show my I.D. again so I willingly do. After showing all of my other cards which had my name on it, she then proceeds to tell me that it is a fake license. She says my license is a fake because she can bend it in half, which New York license I.D.'s are flexible unlike Michigan's which are solid plastic. I ask her if she has a black light or scanner and she again defers and tells me she can bend it so it is fake. Granted I could of handled it in a better manor, however when some calls me a liar, I do not take kindly to that. We go back and forth for a minute and she eventually tells me that I can go to the bar next door because they routinely serve minors. This really made me upset not only is she calling me a liar in front of everyone in the bar she also makes a snide comment about how I am underage (which I am not, actually I am 24 years old.). I have had a drink and food at the place before and have enjoyed it, however I have never in my life been a called a liar or more humiliated, I am going to go tomorrow and speak to the person in charged and see if I can at least get an apologize. I do not recommend going to this place if you have an out of state license in case you have to suffer through the same humiliation I...
