About this fantastic eatery…my husband and I wanted bbq so instead of going to a place we frequented, we branched out and stopped at Smokey Watson BBQ on Greenwell Springs rd. Let me tell you that when we got out the car, you could smell the flavor and walking up to the window to place our order was a treat that we didn’t know was coming to us. We were greeted with a smile and one of the warmest welcomes we’ve ever experienced 🫶🏾. My husband asked a few questions about the type of wood they use and it was a match made in heaven from thereon. We both got combination plates: mine with wings, ribs and brisket; his with oxtails (double serving) and chicken. We both asked about the Mac and cheese and the owner (wife) spoke with confidence and great joy on how it was smoked Mac and cheese. Nothing else needed to be said 😀 We also had a nice helping of mustard greens (reminded me of my grandmother’s 🙌🏾). This place is a hidden gem! We’ll be back for sure, with family and friends! Thank you so much for providing us with food cooked with love and passion. It’s absolutely finger licking great and tastefully delicious to...
Read moreTraveled from New Orleans for the smoked oxtails and it was so worth it. I tasted it in the parking lot and I immediately went back for another plate. They were fall off the bone tender and so flavorful. I also got the brisket, smoked sausage, and turkey wing. Again, so tender and flavorful. For my sides, I had the mac & cheese, baked beans, and mustard greens. Mac and cheese was cheesey and creamy, the baked beans were sweet and smokey, and the greens were delicious with a special seasoning that hit the spot. Everything was sooo good. Libby (Mrs. Smokey Watson) was so nice. I felt like I was talking with family.
I have told several friends and family members (in New Orleans and Baton Rouge) about Smokey Watson. One has already visited with a similar review and others plan to go very soon. This will be a mandatory stop anytime I go to B.R. But those oxtails are only on Wednesday and Saturday, so I will plan accordingly. 🥰 Next on the list are the burgers and ribs, especially the beef ribs.
The pictures don’t do it justice, but this place is a must visit!!! Missed pics of the...
Read moreRibs: 10/10. Most restaurants cook ribs until the meat falls off the bone. That is overcooked. You should be able to bite the meat, pull, and then the meat should come off the bone cleanly. That is how my ribs were. I don’t usually eat BBQ sauce since I’m very picky about it. I would eat this BBQ sauce for sure. I would definitely order the ribs again.
Sausage: 10/10. The flavor of the sausage was amazing. Spicy enough to add a little magic, yet not overwhelmingly spicy to where it completely drowns out the flavor of the sausage. Would definitely order again.
Overall: 9.6/10. I would absolutely order from here multiple times, and would not have a single complaint. Staff were extremely friendly. Only thing is that the parking was limited, but that is not in...
