Rice House Chinese Restaurant — Restaurant in Baxter Springs

After reading the reviews & reading the menu ahead of time, my boyfriend & I decided to eat here. The place was empty so we took a seat. We ordered egg rolls, Springfield style cashew chicken with fried rice and Szechaun chicken with white rice, sweet tea & water. Water was a bottle of water. Everything came hot and looked amazing. The egg roll was delicious. We then started on our main dish and the rice was served separately in a bowl, so that was odd to us. First I tried a mushroom and it was good, however my chicken was mostly fat in several little bites. I had more and more bites of fat and skin that I had to say something. My boyfriend's dish was fine. His chicken was firm at least. When I asked the young man to come look at it, he then had to translate to a woman and I apologized & said I would not eat that. He tried to say it was the oil they cook with. Umm no, it was fat & skin. What gets me is that they didn't even offer to bring me more chicken or even beef, but no. I wasn't even asked, nor did I get an apology. They took my dish away. I may have eaten the veggies. I was left with a half a bowl of white rice. Unbelievable! Oh! Also they charge $2 additional for rice. My bottle of water was .80 cents! I know I won't go back based on how they handled my complaint. They should have apologized & offered me something else to eat. The reviews were great, not too many complaints....

Found this place by sheer accident on our way to Galena, Kansas following Route 66 and so glad we did!!!!! ❤️😋😍 This un-assuming restaurant isn't fancy by any means, but don't let that fool you because there's some of the best Chinese food awaiting you inside. The interior similar to the exterior is simple and relatively small with approximately 6 tables. Set-up is geared more towards takeout as there were lots of people picking up food orders. We opted to dine in and we wouldn't have had it any other way. The service was phenomenal!!!! Our waiter had mad multi-tasking skills as he waited on us, took phone and walk in orders, checked and prepared orders, and ran the cash register all while ensuring our drinks never ran empty. The menu selection is HUGE! There were items listed on the partition that weren't listed on the menu yet....the menu selection is that big. Everything we ordered was beyond AMAZING!!! We ordered the beef fried rice, tofu with country vegetables, szechuan shrimp, salt and papper tofu cubes, fried spicy dumplings, and an order of crab rangoon. The food is always good, the reason for the one star is due to the service. We use to come here alot, and the service use to be great, now it is almost like its a inconvenience that we walked through the door.
