Terrible experience. We've eaten at Grampa Tony's many, many times over the years. Most times the food has been really good, except that the "famous" steak sandwiches are definitely not what they once were. Unfortunately, this old favorite is now not something we order. On this occasion, we were in that part of town for a medical appointment, so decided it would be convenient for breakfast. We arrived around 10:30 am and were the ONLY customers. Assuming that our food would be fresh and ready quickly was a mistake. After ordering within 5 minutes, we waited nearly an hour for our meals. In the meantime, other people began coming in for lunch and were receiving salads and bread baskets while we waited . . . and waited. My orange juice had a couple of blue-colored "floaters", so I didn't drink it. I had a Southern Omelet and my husband had Southern Potato Skins. Pretty much the same ingredients, just different presentations. Surprisingly, he did not get toast with his! Most egg dishes do come with toast or bread of some type. When my food was finally brought out, the "dark" toast that I had requested was just cold bread with a smidgen of butter and no extra butter on the table. The rest of my food was cold, as if it had been sitting a while. My husband was told that his needed more time in the oven. About 10 minutes later it was brought to him -- at least it was hot and sizzling. It was pretty impossible to request anything from our server since she was one who approached the table to check on us just as we'd take a bite, and then keep moving on without giving us a chance to ask for what we needed. I do accept that part of this issue was my fault for not demanding to have the OJ taken away and removed from the bill, and for not complaining about the rest of my meal. By this point we were in a real time crunch and couldn't afford to wait any longer so that we could eat our meals separately! Also, I am not one to complain about food in restaurants. I will usually be pretty calm about it and just make a note to myself to not order that item again or not eat there again. After this experience, I can definitely say that we won't be back for breakfast ever again. Also, we've had both take-out and delivery in the past few months and those were much better experiences than dining in. I also want to address the "service charge". Other reviewers mentioned it and the management's reply seems to tie it to credit card charges. We have seen this at other restaurants, but it is noted at the cashier's counter if you are actually using a credit card. At Grampa Tony's, it was added to our check before it was even brought to our table. Unless the server is a mind reader and can tell ahead of time that the customer is actually using a card and not cash, this doesn't make any...
Read moreOur food came out raw and our waitress got a serious attitude when we complained. My wife and I and my mother came in today for a nice Sunday breakfast like we've had here many times before. I ordered the biscuits and gravy with a side of hashbrowns and bacon. My wife ordered the western omelet, and my mother ordered bacon and eggs. Now I've had bacon that wasn't necessarily crispy before at other restaurants, and usually it comes out perfect when we go here. But when they brought our bacon this time it was grey and pink like it just came out of the packaging. Now I know it's not the waitresses fault she didn't cook it, but when she gave us our plates we asked if we could have it cooked more. She rolled her eyes and came back with two bowls and had us dump our bacon in them to take back, before she left we asked if we could get silverware because we didn't have any. A few minutes later she brought our bacon out cooked properly but didn't bring us silverware. We tried for several minutes to get her attention to ask again and she'd look at us and keep walking. Finally we got her to stop and asked for our silverware, she said ok and proceeded to go wait on another table. After about 10-15 minutes from getting our food back we finally got our silverware, and was able to try our food. My biscuits tasted stale and the sausage gravy had absolutely no sausage in it and just tasted bland and my hashbrowns were just mush. My wife tried her omelet and the vegetables inside were crunchy and raw, and the ham was cold. After a few more minutes we got the waitresses attention again and my wife who never returns food at restaurants asked her to take it back because the the vegetables are raw. Again the waitress rolled her eyes and took her plate back. We then see her talking with another employee and angerly pointing at our table. Shortly after that another waitress comes over to check on us, we told her we're sorry we're not trying to be difficult but all our food was cold and raw and that we know it's not our waitresses fault but she's being extremely rude about it. She said yeah she's just having a bad day because she's training a new employee. Our family has been coming here for decades, but we're thinking it's time to find a new spot for...
Read moreWorst experience ever. Been going there since I was a kid. But, never again. Any fast food place would've been a better choice. I ordered the spaghetti and ravioli combo. I had them add meatballs and the meat balls were absolutely terrible. It was completely dry with no moisture to them at all. They had no flavor at all either. The texture was tough and hard. Like they had been cooking all day and put in the fridge or freezer. They were not the same temp as the rest of the food on my plate. My son ordered a sirloin steak and it also had no flavor at all. He ordered medium rare and he got it rare. Which that part is not a big deal. But, the steak itself should not have been served. It was supposed to be sirloin but, I was a meat manager at a local meat market for 16 years and it wasn't even cut right. And it looked like 2 mountains with a valley in between it. You know it's bad when a kid refuses to eat it. That should've been ground into burger or mixed into sausage or something other than steak. My salad had old lettuce in it with 1 black olive and 1 grape tomato. That's not a salad. You might as well just call it a bowl of old lettuce. The only reason we went to eat there was for the banana split. Which thankfully was good but, it's kind of hard to mess up ice cream that was already made. I recommend never going there for anything at all. We will be going to G's Pizzeria instead. A much better choice and the food and experience is always amazing there. The worst $75 I ever spent. If there was an option of zero stars that's what I would give...
