Rolling down I-45 toward Galveston, I pulled off for a quick pit stop at Bayou Bistro--and let me tell you, this is more than just a roadside bite. If you're island-bound, this place deserves a spot on your itinerary. I went straight for the special of the day: grilled Mahi-Mahi. The plate came with a side of grilled vegetables that were spot-on--tender, well-seasoned, and carrying just the right amount of char for that smoky depth. The seasoned rice was a pleasant surprise--rich, savory, and with a creamy, risotto-like texture that made it feel far more upscale than a highway exit would suggest. The star of the plate, the fish, was cooked exactly how you'd want it: flaky, moist, and evenly done from edge to center. Of course, I couldn't resist snagging a bite of my son's meatball sub. Big, juicy meatballs, a tangy marinara, and bread with enough structure to hold it all without falling apart--it was a winner. Dessert wasn't in the cards this time, but the Pineapple Tres Leches is already on my must-try list for my next trip through. If it's anywhere near as good as the rest of the meal, I'll be leaving Bayou Bistro with both a full stomach and zero regrets.

I'm kinda biased to this place but, because it's my local go to place I want you to know it too. The ingredients are fresh, they had tuna that was seared perfect. The gumbo had great flavor. By the way, nobody makes gumbo the same way, your mom doesnt work there so stop comparing it to that. The desserts are made in house. Last one i had was the coconut pie. Holy hell. I cant tell you how good it is. It was delicious, it made me mad and happy, and that's what good food does, it stirs emotion. It made me mad because, how could this be that good? Happy because i got to try it and enjoy it. Once upon a time in Mexico has a scene that replays in my mind. The wait staff are great, I was impressed when our server served us our first slice of pizza. I didn't realize it but that small gesture was thoughtful. Get the pizza, I recommend the naked pizza no tomatoes, add pepperoni, olives, and feta. I like the garlic butter on that one as opposed to tomato sauce. That's mine feel free to use it, I'm getting it with bacon next time.

We have been here several times and today was the best server we have had. Granted the other servers were good also, we have never had bad service. Melissa B. did a great job during a busy time frame here on a Friday night. The food here tastes homemade and obviously a great chef is in back of house! The strawberry marscapone cake was AMAZING and not heavy at all. Very light and fluffy frosting with a lot of flavor. Clearly made at the location (or they fooled me). Our 7 year old approves.

The Bistro here at Bayou Vista is excellent it was really good tonight we had a group of 21 people very accommodating to us it is our meetup group that we have once a month for dinner parties and just to get out and hang out and drink and have fun and socialize which is really awesome and our waitress Brandi oh my God she was phenomenal y'all she's the one of the best waitresses that I've had ever had with a group of 15 people are more oh my God she was attentive she stayed on top of our drinks she never you know once had a bad attitude with us and it was just phenomenal it was really really phenomenal I mean this is the the most biggest compliment you can give to a waitress this was that was her that was the best waitress I ever had for a group of 15 people or more and I've worked in the industry for five years in the past and I wish I had a hundred of her on my staff when I had a restaurant and worked in the restaurant business cuz she was just so much happiness so excellent and so yeah don't ever lose her keep her there give her management position she's going to go far one of these days if she stays in the hospitality field or restaurant field food was excellent it was nothing wrong with it it was great the wings are awesome I had a fried catfish dinner and they black and season it for me perfect tasting and everything everybody else has to look amazing the pizzas looked really good I tried one of the little try to slice of pizza from one of the guys and oh my God they had a sausage of some sort Pizza on there and it was fantastic sausage was nice and spicy but not too spicy just right it was a nice Italian sausage and it was just really really excellent so if y'all go please definitely see Brandi for your waitress and by the way the manager stop by the tables and asked if we needed anything and we told her we could use a couple more drinks and she went and got them for us she had no problem getting us what we wanted because she knew there was such a big group and oh yeah by the way by you Bistro tonight was Pac I mean it was packed we stay there from about 6:30 till about almost 830pm so I mean we had a nice to our dinner service it was excellent and definitely y'all need to go back and y'all need to see him they're very good I'd give him a 5-star rating the pricing is not too expensive it's it's what you expected to Bistro everything they make there is a handmaid it's all homemade food has no pre-ordered Cisco this is all one hundred percent homemade hand battered we had guys that order the chicken fried steak hamburgers there is a chicken parmesan that was shredded by hand there was I mean everything that they had there was all bread by hand my catfish dinner I had was red it by hand I would rather have cornmeal batter instead of a flour batter but that's my personal opinion and I thought I'd probably told him that they would have probably accommodated me but I did not ask I just order the catfish dinner and didn't think anything of it everything was excellent the vegetables are fresh I can go on and on folks and you know rate how good and brave this evening was and was friends and and all that but I'm going to leave it here go see my friend Brandy over there give her a nice big ol hug and a nice big old tip she will take care of you and nothing will go wrong I promise you she had an excellent night tonight so yes definitely go see the Bayou Bistro excellent food excellent service everything is 100% handmade homemade all right they're good to go all right I'm going to stop rambling and let this post speak for itself and I want to go let the food talk for itself y'all have a great night talk...

The only reason why I'm giving this establishment a one is because I can't give it a zero a restaurant has two things to allow to be successful food and service they get a one for their food cuz I don't want to distract by giving them a V for their food because they have very good food but their service absolutely stinks I sat out on their patio for 25 minutes after they knew I was out there because I spoke with someone before coming out and telling me "Oh I forgot you were out here"... so being even tempered man that I am I let it slide I made my order which they make absolutely wonderful chicken fried steak... and it took them another twenty-five minutes before my order was ready and then they didn't even bring it out to me I had to go inside and remind them again that I was out there . The waitress once more, apologized she forgot I was out there . I was literally the only one out there and you can see through the windows perfectly fine, no excuses for them this is the second time this has happened to me here, the first time was about 6 months ago and I swore I would never go back, but, I decided I would try it again and again, this happened once more, are you lining me! not happy with their service, food is great, service...

We arrived about 2 hours before they closed and felt rushed the minute we walked in. We sat outside which I liked. It didn't take long at all to order & get our food. When the waitress brought it out she mumbled something about having a lot to clean up. I said I'm sorry, you must have had a busy day. She said just a lot to clean. We finished dinner which was really good & sat around for another 10 mins before I went inside to ask her for a to-go plate as she was picking the stuff up off the inside tables. She brought them out & asked if I wanted a bag. I said yes please & she said she'd bring it out. She did along with the check & started picking stuff up off our table. We bagged it up, grabbed out stuff. She was already standing at the check out counter & when we opened the door to go in & pay she said, FINALLY! I thought she may have been talking about something else so I disregarded. I have her my card to run & she said she had a lot to clean up again. I asked her what time they closed thinking maybe we had read the hour wrong. She said 9:30. It was 8:45! There was no reason for her to rush us out like she did, it was very rude! The food was really good & I would recommend the place if we hadn't have been treated...
