Its location makes Jet Freeze a bit of a local secret treat. We go there several times each summer. I love their blue raspberry and strawberry soft serve "ice cream." I'm pretty sure it's not real ice cream. It has a granulated texture something like a blend of smooth soft serve ice cream and the tiny frozen crystals of a slushy. They also have pretty good chocolate, and vanilla is just vanilla to me - something that needs flavor added. So, for you weird vanilla lovers of the world, I can't give you a good review of their plain vanilla. Although we typically only get cones or cups, Jet Freeze has a full selection of sundaes, banana split, slushies, floats, malts, frozen bars, and other frozen treats. I believe Jet Freeze is the first time I've ever had a pretzel cone, or even knew they existed. The pretzel cones are not as great as I hoped, but the lightly salted cone goes well with the sweetness of the frozen confections. They also have some hot food items: hot dogs, nachos, pretzels, maybe burgers(?). The first summer we discovered Jet Freeze, we went about 1-3 times a week as a cool treat after leaving the park or several hours doing yard work. Since then, we go 1-3 times a month when it's warm out. The prices probably are the one thing that holds me back from giving them a 5-star rating. It's not super expensive, but it's not inexpensive either - not enough to afford going a few times a week as we did the first summer we heard of them a few years ago. Still, I recommend checking them out at least once...
Read moreBrought my family who was in town for a couple of days. Inside the store they tout on every window that they accept a number of electronic methods of payment (Apple pay, Google pay, and credit). They take all of our orders (6 people in our party - 3 children) and even supply the first order's ice cream. After ordering, the woman says they are only taking cash because their card machine is down, yet has me try the card two times to no avail. We explain that we do not carry cash and have a total of $4 in cash. She proceeds to declare that the ice cream she already gave us was $6 after we'd stated that we had $4 in cash. I offered to write a check (which I just so happened to have from another recent transaction), and she denied to accept it. She took the $4, and withheld the remaining ordered items (again, 3 children present). My husband went to the nearby gas station to get cash from their ATM. Meanwhile, one women behind us was so furious that she gave my sister in law $6 cash for my niece and nephews stating, " they could have at least given ice cream to the children." We are regular, run of the mill folks. We don't carry cash because this is increasingly a cashless world. Instead of doing the right thing, this business made it seem like not having cash (despite their many signs for accepting e-payment) was our fault. We would not have ordered if they didn't state explicitly in writing in their store that they accepted other forms of payment. ...
Read moreGrowing up, one of the great delights was stopping by the Jet Freeze to get great soft ice cream, malts or a sandwich. Then, it was only open during the summer months. Alas, that was then. 2 of us stopped in, both wanting a swiss steak sandwich. But they only had one. Is this a popular item? Or poor planning by whoever places the supply orders? Anyway, no "sorry about that." More like "What else you want?" I settled for a hot dog. Foot Long. Nastiest dog I've ever had. Not much bigger round than, say, maybe 3/8"-1/2". Condiments? Behind the counter. THEY put them on. Asking for a "little" mustard resulted in so much that I had to scrape it off to get anywhere near edible. Napkins? The holder was empty. This IS an ice cream place, right? This place has obviously changed hands since my youth. Although I must admit, Dad's malt tasted pretty good. Some things just can't be screwed up, I guess. Supposedly they're open year round now. Doesn't matter. I won't be back. I'll just remember what a great place...
