The Route 8 Pub and its staff is a very special place. One of my favorite moments of the day in Los Angeles was going to the Farmer's Market at Third and Fairfax for a taco and a few beers from 3p to 7p as International Alliance of Theatrical Stage Employees IATSE would take a moment to unwind in spaces with live music and familiar faces. The Route 8 Pub has that kind of relaxed connected feel - although Becket Village doesn't really have foot traffic or workplaces. Consistently they make one feel welcome and play an important role as a community meeting place. In 2023 they had to close during the winter which makes year around support an important goal for everyone who might visit here. Roger holds down the kitchen exceptionally well. Their daily specials feature a rotating selection of favourites - Fried chicken, fried haddock and the wings are strong offerings. If I could add a personal suggestion - some basics that are not fried / cooked like a Turkey Club, smaller bites (think something like tapas) and more sautéed local produce (fruits and vegs) would be awesome. On the bottled beer front - a few more non US easy drinking unfussy beers (Peroni, Newcastle and Modelo) would add to the existing Stella Artois offerings. Also anything from neighbouring businesses Wandering Star (Pittsfield / Becket), Hitchcock (Bernardston) or Artifact (Florence) would be especially welcome, as would Herrell's or SoCo ice cream (Northampton, Great Barrington). These offerings are found nearby at the Chester Common Table / Carm's in Chester and they really make for a nice outing. I like how this place is especially friendly and welcoming day after day! Love the strong women who run this place - and a great set of male supporters and...
Read moreMy brother passed away in feb 2021 which prompted a road trip in July of that year. I drove thru 31 states in 28 days, just me & my dog. Along the way, we stopped at Route 8 Pub. Originally, I was just stopping at the dispensary next door to pick up "supplies" until I was told I get a discount at the pub around the corner. Being from Texas, having those two things connected was definitely a culture shock lol so I had to check it out. I ended up grabbing just one beer since my pup was in the car, but in the short time I was there, I had the pleasure of chatting with Sara (bartender) and Roger (chef). Growing up in the south, all you ever hear about the north is that everyone is just mean. These two proved to be the exact opposite. They were easily two of the kindest people I met along my trip. I might even go as far to say they are the only two people I even remember meeting on my trip. At one of the lowest points of my life, they made me feel just a little bit better & they left a lasting impression on me that I still think about almost every day 3 years later. The owners are beyond blessed to have those two employees, as I'm sure they know. Those are genuinely good people. I'll make it back up to the pub again one day, I just hope they're working...
Read moreBest little pub in Becket!!! Arlyn was most attentive. Food was excellent. Wings are the best we have had in a long, long time. Not dried out or double fried, nor cold! These wings were temperature hot, moist and had the perfect amount of spice. Seriously, the best we have had in a very long time. Also serves chunky bleu cheese and celery. The burger was fantastic and the bun had its Rte 8 brand on top. Onion rings were excellent too, Hot, crisp and not overly salted. And they actually snapped when you bit into them! Most onion rings, your first bite and the entire ring comes out of the breading, not these. Definitely get the onion rings. Their individual pizza was also excellent. A nice seasoned thin crust with just the amount of sauce and cheese. Toppings were extra however, worth it. All around, the best little pub, with good fun staff and wonderful food. Highly recommend and shall most definitely return. Tell the owners, the staff...
