The Core' Bistro — Restaurant in Bedford Charter Township

I don't normally rate places, but by returning bad experience after bad experience (grace granted because of how conveniently located it is), I feel I have enough evidence to report. The most recent and final trip to Core Bistro, after waiting an hour for my food, I returned home and immediately put my cold soggy fries in my air fryer so I can finally eat something. Trying to convince myself I didn't completely waste $16.50 on a burger and fries (no drink, just burger and fries). Also on this most recent trip, the inside was so muggy, dark, and hot I couldn't possibly sit and eat food. I went to the porch, but the noise between the road, the two tables sitting out there, and the music was so loud I changed my order to a to-go order. The poor atmosphere made the long wait much worse. (I do believe outside was cooler than inside though.) I had ample time to recall my previous poor visits and sorely regret coming here once again. I typically came at lunch time in the weekdays. I remember having to go to the kitchen to remind staff I existed (at the lunch hour, inside!!). I remember the other time when the burger was so undercooked and watery my bun and fries were soaked in a puddle of red water. That order was remade and the waitress apologized. Two additional times the outside was cooked but the center redder than medium well. I remember another time when I was so stiffed on fries that I laughed out loud when she brought it out-- seriously, it was like 9 fries. Instead of getting more or a discount or anything, I just got attitude. I told her I've been here before several times and I've gotten more fries, but she said that was what came with the meal. Focusing on atmosphere, at today's visit, when I awkwardly slid my knees out from the table too low for the chairs too high, I saw two older men having to do stretches from their uncomfortable porch seats. I like watching the Port Huron livestream, so two points for atmosphere. Terrible interior color scheme and decorations. Food is sometimes good enough that I came back all those times, so the stars for those times when it was cooked and warm. For service, I would say it depends on who you get, but I think I only had the same server on two different instances out of probably the 7-8 times I went here. The owner and staff are unfriendly and rude... They get angry with their customers when told there is a problem with your order or the quality of the food they serve you and will react very negatively. They just don't want to hear it! They don't subscribe to the customer service adage that "The Customer is Always Right" or "what can we do to make it right".

Before the remodel my mother and I ordered fish FILET off the menu and when we started to eat it we found that it was full of bones, when we told the server she replied... "all fish have bones in them". We realize that fish have bones in them, but when you order Fish Filet the bones are suppose to be removed, hence FISH FILET! That's why I order fish filet, because I want fish with the bones removed.

Definition: A fish fillet, from the French word filet /filɛ/ meaning a thread or strip, is the flesh of a fish which has been cut or sliced away from the BONE by cutting lengthwise along one side of the fish parallel to the backbone. Apparently this restaurant owner doesn't know the definition of Fish Filet!

Anyways the server preceded to walk around the restaurant saying to other customers "have you ever heard of a fish without bones in them?" attempting to belittle and ridicule us and right in front of us... I was astounded by the level of unnecessary disrespect and ridicule that they imposed and subjected their customers to.

As silly as it sounds we went back several weeks later, because we were in need of a quick meal and were close by and thought maybe the last time was an isolated incident and we'd give them a second chance. After the last negative experience we purposely didn't order fish again. We had no problems or complaints with our meal this time, however while we were sitting there eating, the server began the same tirade for no apparent reason... walking around the restaurant saying to other customers "have you ever heard of a fish without bones in them?" again belittling and ridiculing us in our presence... we couldn't believe it. Of course we'll never ever go back again.

My wife and I have wanted to go here ever since we saw it while passing by a couple years ago. Today we finally got the chance. They have Mooville ice cream and some food that you can get at the walk up window they have. We decided to dine-in. You have the choice of an enclosed (screened-in) patio and the dining area. We got a table inside.

The waitress was courteous, however, took longer than expected to check on us and as we were ready to leave. We brought our 14 month old with us who was ready to leave as we waited an additional 10-15 minutes to get a check/box. I'm not sure if they only have a couple high chairs, but we asked for one and we were brought a booster (which she called a high chair). It is possible she is new and not used to a busy Friday night.

We opted to hold our son throughout the entire meal due to him not being able to sit in a booster yet. The soda (Coke) was lacking in flavor and the appetizer we bought was kind of small (spinach and artichoke dip). The flavor was great.

That being said, the atmosphere was good. They have a couple of small TVs should you need a TV to entertain you. The gyro was good and had plenty of toppings. I felt it was lacking in meat though (very thinly sliced). I felt that the gyro and chips weren't quite worth the price paid.

My wife got the wet burrito and it was big. You could easily share it between two people. My wife gave the wet burrito a 5/5. The side of cottage cheese (for the kiddo) was a good size too.
