Update: they've trained staff better and therefore cooked our meal better on our second visit. They also have an updated menu that includes the things you'd expect, and drink menus now.
However, the mojito they made me was not muddled at all so had a poor flavor, and had a tiny bit (like less than a pinch) of tajin it in which they claimed they always put in there. However, it made me worry the glass was just dirty, especially since it's not customary for a mojito. They remade it so I can't complain too much, but I would be hesitant purchasing more drinks there (especially with a basic cocktail just not being made correctly).
Original: I expected the store to be very busy since they just opened, but thing after another just made this a very poor experience.
For starters, they didn't have a single appetizer that was less than $10, and most of their meals were over $20, which means that price wise this should have been a nicer dining experience.
We waited 35 minutes for a table, after being told we were next to be sat and that it would only be 10 minutes. We had a reservation that we put in 5 hours beforehand.
Their menu doesn't have sides, drinks, or deserts on it. The tables did not have an alcohol menu despite them having a bar, nor were we offered one.
It took us nearly 15 minutes to get non-alcoholic drinks.
My 1st steak came out well done after being ordered medium rare, and the mashed potatoes were cold. My recooked steak was poorly cut (nearly 2 inches on one end and less than an inch on the other), and was half rare and half well done because of it. I forgot to take a photo of the second one. The recooked mashed potatoes were so cold also that my butter didn't melt. I also didn't get my recook for so long that my boyfriend finished eating before I got it.
I was also given a salad that was, to quote my waitress, "slightly smaller" than their original salad since I asked for iceberg lettuce instead of salad mix. However, it was actually about 1/3 of the size of their normal salads, which come on a dinner sized plate. Mine came in the salsa bowl shown.
We waited 20 minutes for boxes, a to go drink, and the check. Our meal for 2 was about $65.
Their takeout boxes are very cheap, and ours broke in two places when we picked it up.
They earned one star back for allowing us to take home the overcooked steak...

Ā Ā Ā Read moreMy sister and I were skeptical about going here because of some of the less than stellar reviews, but a client of ours said they had been and highly recommended it, so we decided to see for ourselves (we always like to try and support new businesses/restaurants, especially those helping to rejuvenate "downtown Americana" ). What a shame about the negative reviews, because we had a fantastic experience, (I really hope people will give it a shot and see for themselves). Our server Jenny was wonderful, she was so professional and patient, explaining everything and answering all of our questions. I ordered the Monte Cristo Sandwich, which I understand has just been added to the menu (still not on the actual menu, but the person who recommended this restaurant to us, had it and loved it). I have to say, I am a bit of a MCS "snob", they are my favorite sandwiches and I have been known to drive miles and miles for a good one. This one may be the best I have ever eaten. Disneyland's Monte Cristo Sandwich has nothing on this one and if you remember Bennigan's "world famous Monte Cristo Sandwich", yep, this one is just as good or maybe even better . It was perfection, warm and cheesy on the inside, crispy on the outside. The raspberry sauce was over the top delicious and perfectly paired with the sandwich! My sister had the fried fish and ribs which she loved. The fish was perfectly fried, light and flaky with just the right amount of crunch and the ribs were falling off the bones. Kudos to Travis for our delicious meal!!!! I know we just ate there last night, but I am already craving that sandwich...we will...
