I have visited the Pitchfork Steak Fondue many times over the years. At one time, it was a fun novelty meal with good food for a decent price. It has changed. Today's visit was my first time this year and by far the worst.
Diners used to be able to select the type of steak they preferred: ribeye, strip, or sirloin. Now there is only one choice - "steak." The steak is a cheaper cut of meat. It does appear to be the advertised 12 oz. It was definitely not cooked to the advertised medium. It was very well done. Think boot leather. I never use steak sauce, but needed a generous amount of Heinz 57 to get this destroyed meat down.
The baked beans, baked potato, garlic bread, coleslaw. and fruit melon blend was ok. Not great but ok. There was coffee, lemonade and water to drink. Dessert was a choice of the prepackaged gas station brownies or gas station mini doughnuts.
The steak dinner with the above sides is advertised at $36.95 but do not be fooled. After fees, this meal costs $45, which is about $40 too much. If you only want the sides without steak, the cost is $17.95 plus fees which comes out to about $25. Thats a lot for baked beans and coleslaw! They will throw in a hot dog at no additional charge if you ask.
I will not be going back here again. As I mentioned, I have gone every year for many years, but it has gotten so bad and so expensive, it has reached the point of no return. If you want steak in Medora, there are restaurants that will sell you a good quality steak appropriately cooked the way you order,...
Ā Ā Ā Read moreFinally found a way to leave a review. Tried to when we went there 2 years ago. They artfully avoided facilitating reviews, but we never forgot how bad it was and how ripped off we felt. Whoever reviewed that the steak was overdone and tough and not worth at half the price was ABSOLUTELY CORRECT! That was our experience. And that was more recently so apparently not much has changed. Their version of a salad bar were some raw vegetables, no lettuce involved. As local North Dakotans, we feel sorry for the tourists sucked in by this fraud. When we complained , the cowboys got defensive saying all the steaks were done medium. NOT! Hopefully someone will read this, save themselves some money and get a better meal elsewhere. Sorry but the buffet in town was no prize either. Don't know were to tell you to go. We live a couple hours away. We pack a lunch and catch dinner in Dickinson on the way home. Perkins Diner is good. Gave up on Trappers Kettle too. Last time we went there, they burned the Buffalo burgers so bad, they were inedible. Medora is quaint, lots of interesting history, but a tourist trap nonetheless. The show is worth seeing...once. Just don't try to eat there. Browse the shops. We go for the parks. Both units are spectacular. If you are astute and attentive you will see a lot of wildlife, large and small. The rest is sadly commercialized. But the parks, and nature never disappoints. Tourists beware of the rest....
Ā Ā Ā Read moreWe ventured to this place after spotting it on a captivating highlight pamphlet for Madora. Intrigued, we perused the menu options and enthusiastically settled on indulging in a mouthwatering steak dinner, complemented by a sumptuous buffet for ourselves, and a delightful hot dog dinner for our little one.
During our conversation with the ticket personnel while making reservations, they assured us that the experience would be delightful, with an abundance of delectable food. Filled with anticipation, we arrived at the venue, eager to witness the culinary delights that awaited us. However, our excitement quickly turned to disappointment as we surveyed the meager offerings laid out before us.
The so-called "buffet" consisted of a limited selection of baked potatoes, savory baked beans, fresh fruit, tangy coleslaw, and delectable garlic toast. It became apparent that the actual spread fell far short of the magnificent buffet we had been led to believe in. There were no additional menu options, resembling the diverse array of choices one expects from a traditional buffet.
Adding insult to injury, the image portrayed on the pamphlet bore little resemblance to the reality of the steak meal. It was a disappointing discovery, as our expectations had been heightened by the tantalizing picture presented to us. It was not worth the almost 90$ for 2adult and one child. Eat...
