From Excitement to Extreme Disappointment... Today I stumbled across a Western Sizzlin during my work travels, it looked like a new building. It had been nearly 20 years since I patronized a Western Sizzlin, the one in my home town went out of business; so I was truly excited to see this location today. I walked in, the hostess, Madison, asked what I wanted to order, I told her I needed a minute to look at the wall menu. She actually snickered when I said that. I asked if the buffet was included in a meal, she said it was extra. I ordered the Sizzler Sirloin with the Salad Bar. The hostess gave me no direction such as seat yourself or anything. So I wandered back, it was a very large restaurant, I like to sit somewhere near the salad bar but I found table after table was dirty; no dishes just dirty, food stuffs, straw wrappers, drink rings, etc., dirty. I walked the dirty table path to the back of the restaurant where I finally found a clean table. No one came for a bit; after staring at the dirty carpet for awhile I headed to the salad bar to help myself but there were no plates and no bowls so I went back to my booth. When the waitress came over she was very nice, I wish I'd caught her name, I usually do. she looked at my receipt and bought my a drink and one plate, one very small soup cup and one very small pudding bowl. I went to the salad bar, it had salad makings, (iceberg was the only lettuce), it had toppings such as cheeses and tomatoes and mushrooms, it was clean and had a good variety. I filled up a plate of salad but I needed help with the dressings... there were eight dressings (good variety) BUT only two were labeled, a couple were obvious but I had to guess at the rest, one looked like brown gravy. I saw one that looked like blue cheese but it was labeled sour cream so I asked, the girl agreed it was blue cheese (which is what I wanted), she acted like I was stupid. I took my salad to my table and I kid you not, the moment I sat down with it my steak and potato arrived! This really bothered me because you eat your your salad and then are served your entree. Even worse was the way it looked, it had a large amount of fat on both ends and just looked sad. The food sat there getting cold while I ate my salad (which was good). When I got to my plate of food the potato was grossly under cooked and the meat was the worst piece of meat I had ever eaten. It was fatty, gristly, looked like old leather, and just not good. With that said, I admit that I am a fussy eater. My dinner cost me $20, it was worth nothing but the cost of the salad bar. I have given plenty of good review but very very few bad reviews. I am sixty years old and I can easily say that this was the very worst steak dinner I have ever had in a restaurant in my life, it was outright awful! They need to learn about customer service, they need to learn about cleaning, they need to learn about presentation and most of all they need to learn about steak. It was so bad that even though I was really hungry I had to leave it, it just wasn't edible and that left me hangry! (Hangry is now an offcial word and it's how I felt after my first and last visit to this Western Sizzlin.

When we entered the restaurant we weren't greeted, I looked at the young woman and said there are 2 of us. To which she mumbled something, I had to ask her to repeat herself two more times before I understood her. She said we needed to place our order right here. I said alright I didn't know I haven't been here for a long time. She didn't offer us the special for the day or try to upsale anything. We ordered paid and sat down. When our food arrived , my steak was overcooked, and my husband's was under seasoned. I hate overcooked steak, the waitress brought me another steak cooked perfectly, but half the size of my ordered size! Wow! We will not be back. A manager never appeared to check on us or ask if the 2nd steak was better. Pictures below for proof of steak size difference. The steak with the pink was the 2nd steak as I moved my potato on the plate with the new one.

Great service and food! We had a party of 15 on Thanksgiving Day. We first went to Golden Corral and the line was out the door by thirty or more let alone the forty or more winding around inside waiting to get to the cashier! We called Sizzlin and they told us there was no wait! We were met by two very pleasant cashiers and then two other waitresses made sure we had adequate space for our entire family! The food was great! A couple of our steaks needed to be cooked a little.more and it was quickly attended to and our main waitress went over and above to make sure all of our needs were met and surpassed! It was a great experience to allow our family to enjoy this special day of giving thanks and I am thankful for the service and food we had at Western Sizzlin! Shalom

Review for western sizzlin 08.09.11

This place is off the beaten path a ways but it was still easy to access from US50.

The parking seemed to be ok but a little packed in too much. Could have used wider parking spots.

The area you first walked into could be spaced a little better and had both cash registers spaced further apart so the two cashiers could work more efficiently and there would be faster movement. They seemed to be ok at getting us in but seemed a little off for some reason.

The décor was nice and the layout of the place was ok.

We seated ourselves and were taken care of promptly. Our meals came to us very quickly.

I ordered a sirloin with a baked potato. The sirloin did taste very watered down and it needed tons of A1 to make it edible. The baked potato was really good. I got sour cream and cheese from the baked potato bar.

My husband got a chopped steak and he was satisfied with it. He also got a baked potato and he like it too and made it like I did.

My mom just got a house salad.

My sister got a junior version of the sirloin and hers came out too pink so she had to get a new one, it wasn't all that great either it was watered down like mine was. He mashed potatoes were too limpy and dry and the gravy didn't taste very good. All she wanted was regular brown gravy and this place does not have it. That made her upset and so was I. I am very sensitive to limput potatoes and I would not want to try those. I would prolly puke them up LOL. They had 3 kinds of lumps, dry limps, uncooked lumps, and unmashed lumps. LOL. I kinda gagged thinking about that!

In order to fix out steaks we did request some seasoning, however it still didn't make it all that great. I would not get the steaks here.

Our watress was ok and prompt but not very personal.

Overall I would give the place 3.5 stars. The resoning is that the steaks were watered down and that's the focal point of the place and the service, even though extremely prompt, wasn't very personal. The pricing was quite high for the lack of quality for the sirloin.

Recommendation: good quick place for a baked potato and salad for lunch, or a cheap chopped steak, however the main course of the place leaves much...

My husband and I made our first trip to a western sizzlin and we were kind of in sticker shock over the pricing and the weirdness of the menu when the menu has to be explained to you you know that something's not right with it. This comes with a side this doesn't you can get a baked potato side you can get a salad bar side but it costs this much but a regular salad bar is this much and on and on and on it was like standing at the register and being read war and peace. My husband ordered the chicken fried steak and I just did the special which was chopped steak I guess they called it. We also each got a salad bar side. Now the salad bar I must say was very nice but I wasn't too keen on the guy just dumping new on top of old. When our food came my husband's plate looked pretty good but my chopped steak it was like a hamburger patty that was pretty charred about the size of the palm of my hand. Definitely not what I expected. Our server she was very delightful and nice and the tea was good. So whilst the visit wasn't a total disaster the pricing was insane and like I say the menu it's like just make it basic don't have things written on two different walls On half a dozen different wipe off boards. Keep it simple. We won't be back but only because it just wasn't our kind of place. I think we'll just go ahead and make the drive to chillicothe to golden corral because a steak for $20 with a side at western sizzlin...
