Dead Fish Grill — Restaurant in Belton

Called in a reservation the day before to dine in outside in the patio for 1:30. We had my sister and her family come all the way down from Houston to take our mother out to celebrate her bday. This was our first time here and I was recommended by my coworker and he talked up a storm about how great the food and atmosphere was. My mother has had so many health issues including cancer but since then has overcome that but has been battleling other health issues and my family and I wanted to do something special and for her to have a great experience of the outside patio watching the lake and feeling the nice breeze and enjoying the beautiful day that it was yesterday. We got there at 1:20 but we were told we had to wait to be seated because there were no tables outside in the patios after I had clearly made a reservation the day before and showed them my text message as proof of my reservation. The 3 girls up front were very unprofessional and we didn't get greeted and they didn't even ask if we had a reservation or anything. I don't want to pull the racist card out because my boyfriend is American and I'm Hispanic and I know there is good people out there and want to believe there still is. I also didn't want to pull the racist card because there will always be racism no matter what and no one is ever going to change that except that individual that has hate towards colored people. All we can do is just pray for people like that because they obviously have hate in their hearts and life towards others and themselves but after I saw the way the girls up front were treating the Hispanics that were working outside close to their business or for their business you can tell they were very racist to him! The guy was trying to order food and a drink to go obviously because he's hungry and its 1:20 it's past lunch time and I'm sure he's on his break and is hungry but they turned him down because his English speaking skills were not good enough for them and they told him we can't understand what you're saying and told him they couldn't sell food to him and as he turned his back to leave the premises they laughed at him behind his back!!!! Very unprofessional I can't believe they have this kind of people working there as the hostess!!! The only good side that I saw in this situation is that at least the Hispanic/Mexican did his best to try to speak their language English and the girls turned him down because it wasn't good enough for them! You can't stick up for people now a days because if you do and you're brown skin odds are you're going to loose the fight there is no winning with people who have hate towards others. The only great experience that we had there was our waitress by the name of Amanda she was American and spoke Spanish to us which made us feel very welcome even though we all speak English and Spanish and understand it. I think she tried to apologize for the unprofessionalism of the girls up front. That is very nice thing of her to do and shows there is still good people out there but it was not her job to apologize for the unprofessional girls it was her managers and those girls job to apologize, but obviously they have no morals to do that. Amanda went to tell the manager about our experience as first timers and having family coming down from Houston. I saw her telling him and the girls up front but he never came to apologize himself either. My boyfriend who once again is American and I are never going back and definitely not taking his mother there either! To all those who are Hispanic/Mexican I hope you all have a better experience than what we did. So my husband and I have date night on Saturday, and he chose here to make a reservation at the Dead Fish Grill. Upon arrival, we gave him my name and totally have reservatiand we wanted to be seated, so we could see the water cause it's such a pretty view from my table. Once we sat down, our waiter came, which his name was Mike, and he asked us. If we want waters and did we want to order some drinks? So I ordered a centria with fruit and my husband ordered remy and coke. After we looked at our menus for a minute, we decided to order an appetizer, which was the crabcakes. For our dinner, my husband wanted the catfish platter with shrimp. I ordered the rainbow trout with mashed potatoes and mixed veggies. Once Mike came back with our drinks, my sangria was awesome and so pretty.🤩It tasted really good.😋 We gave Mike our order, and we just waited and talked before we knew it. Our dinner came, but not the appetizer 🫣 Mike said he forgot to order our crab cake.🤔 So he apologized and told us that he forgot to put it in, so we began to eat our dinner, and he said that he would bring us a crab cake but not charge for it. So as we were eating our dinner. My husband asked me how my rainbow trout was? I said it was good and seasoned really good, so I gave him a taste 😜 The only thing I didn't like was my vegetables and my mashed potatoes were cold😤 So I asked him how was his meal and his fish and shrimp. He said they they were great, and they were super hot like they just came out of the fryer. By the time. Mike came back with a crab cake. I looked at my plate and I saw a piece of hair , that was not mine, by the way, Mike looked and saw it too on my plate.🙄So he apologized. So he asked me if I wanted to get it.Remade, or did I want to order some else? So I just told him to have them remake it, please. So he took my plate to go get it remade. As I was eating the crab cake, it wasn't that great😐, but it was something to eat. Definitely not a good first time experience when we arrived the place was slammed We did get a seat pretty quickly. Waitress came Order some appetizers and gotta couple of drinks It took a minute for the appetizers to come out, but I assumed That's because of the large crowd I ordered chips and dip with queso and ground beef on the side My friend ordered catfish appetizer and my daughter ordered calamari appetizer. When they finally arrived to the table. Everything looked very good until. My friend tasted the. Catfish it was so salty she almost choked My daughter tasted the Calamari it was something as well When I look at The chips and dip I noticed that they put the ground beef on the side. Which is what I ask 4 didn't know. The portion was gonna be is small in one hour's cup and it was dry meat. It was like it had been sitting out for hours after being cooked. But I'm still hopeful. I ordered a seafood platter. 2 pieces of fish shrimp, oysters, French fries When I tell you I could Is literally ring the grease out of the catfish filet The plate came with four oysters They were over battered And overcooked to a nice crispy brown. The french fries were soggy with grease Just like the catfish filet The only thing on the whole plate that was worth eating was the three shrimp SMH My friend. Who brought me? There have been raving about this place for about 6 months. I had never read any reviews. Just took her advice that it was a good place to eat. She said her and her son come at least once a week.
