Harper's Grill — Restaurant in Belvidere

My review is based on how an employee was treated, I believe that says a lot about a business and its owners and it can say a lot about the atmosphere about a place. This review is based on how an employee that worked at this business; originally thisilldous, has work there for 20 years. One of the only thisilldous employees that stuck it out and was willing to stay because she loved her customers and her job. Her customers always came first and with exceptional service, because this employee took pride in her work, she was the type of employee that would stay up at night worried about her customers health if they were sick or if she hasn't seen them in a while. Someone doesn't work some place for 20 years if they are a unprofessional, not trustworthy or a drama filled person. This employee was trustworthy enough to have keys to the place. This employee did everything. In fact, one morning the cook could not cook because he was not trained properly. Who would feed the customers? How would they get their food? Holly was not there to handle the situation, but this waitress was. She was always there, at least 15 minutes before her shift even started. This waitress stepped in and cooked breakfast for the customers. It wasn't even her job and she still stepped in to make sure things ran smoothly not only for her customer but for the business. There was never a time you would walk in to this business and see this waitress sitting down doing nothing. Especially when this job supported her family. An employee was let go at a team meeting in front of the whole crew in an extremely unprofessional way. This is something that should've been done in private. And this is why this business receives 1 star because in my eyes, this speaks volumes on the type of business this is. If you're hungry and you don't give a crap about any of this then go for it test out the food, I can't promise how good their service...

Visited Thislldous a while ago and waited 40 minutes for scrambled eggs only to be told that they forgot about my order. I hear they have new management and they're being called Harper's Grill. Awesome! I decide to give them a try. The turkey sandwhich lunch special sounded good. "Thinly sliced turkey breast, thinly sliced apples, Swiss cheese, honey mustard on grilled 7 grain". I walked in and placed a to-go order. Comes with potato salad and a pickle. That sounds amazing. 15 minute wait? Not a problem. I go for a short walk and come back to pick up my food. Wait another 10 minutes while 5-6 waitresses serve about 10 customers (4ish tables in total). Odd. Maybe they're new hires. Get my turkey sandwhich and leave. I really should have checked it. No potato salad or pickle. Just a handful of chips. Also, heads up, the turkey sandwhich special is grease town. I literally thought it was a grilled cheese sandwhich. The taste was 10/10 but I was really looking forward to the rest of my order. Guess I'll be sticking with uncle bucks and hoping they try something new...

After coming here for so long, the original owner sold the place and now it is called Harpers Grill the story of the name is sweet and simple. Food is simple and good overall it’s an OK place. Food seems like it’s the same as the last owners which is fine with me. Also happy they do military discount.

Edit: 2024, I think we will have to pass up on this place, we will have to go to uncle bucks now, the cooks can’t even make scrambled eggs right after asking for it twice. Also I didn’t know that there’s “hate” while being at a restaurant...
