This shop was the warmest, most welcoming place I've set foot in around the area. They've made GREAT use of their space right next to the municipal fire hall, which, by the way, was a pre-existing structure. This alone brings them right into the fold with what the Pittsburgh renaissance has been all about--rehabbing old spaces. This place has charm and they've laid it out comfortably and efficiently. I settled in to do some work and there many others sunk deep into their comfortable chairs here too. For you manual coffee lovers out there, they run an Eva Solo here in addition to all the standard run-of-the-mill brewing methods, and it yielded an excellent cup of Ethiopian Reko during my visit. They serve MadCap coffee, and it's pretty excellent. Today's barista (who I think may have been the owner) had a really good handle on the "good" seasons of coffee. I got to spend a few minutes talking to him and found out right away he knew his stuff when we conversed about the good crop of coffee that had come out of Colombia over the summer. A definite gem! I will make the 10-minute drive away from home (from which I can walk to THREE coffee shops) to do my work here from now on. Thumbs...
Read moreThis coffee shop was recommended by my daughter who loves coffee and has searched over the North of Pittsburgh for one she really likes. This Sunday morning, we took a trip to this place in Ben Avon to give it a try.
First the place itself is very unique with a homey feel to it and a nice calm atmosphere. Lots of chairs, tables and sofas to relax in. The servers behind the counter were very friendly and attentive. After answering my questions on the different coffees, I settled on the red eye (mix of espresso and drip). My daughter had a regular drip and my wife had a iced coffee with oat milk added as she has a dairy free requirement.
The baristas bring out the coffee to where you are sitting as it gets finished being made. Let me tell you, I really like coffee and the red eye ranks near the top here. It was well made and not burnt at all, the atmosphere was like sitting in somebody’s living room and we easily spend 1.5 Hours.
This is a great place and local, they also have a location in Coraopolis up the street further. We will be back often to this place for sure. Great service, atmosphere, pricing and overall the coffee...
Read moreWanted to try it out as never been… wasn’t the best experience. Granted half the issue wasn’t the establishment’s fault. The atmosphere is terrible. Multiple kids running around and screaming. Jumping on furniture and opening doors/coolers. Not a very chill atmosphere for a morning coffee. It honestly was like a daycare full of parents that didn’t care what their children did.
As for the coffee shop, it wasn’t overly busy but it still took a very long time to get two drinks. We waited and they at least remembered the bagel my friend ordered. After about 20 minutes we asked about the other pastry and the same person told us “between shift changes it was sold and they don’t have anymore”. Same guy we ordered from in the beginning so not exactly sure about the shift change. Asked for a refund and he said yes. He disappeared again and went back to ignoring us, then after about 5-10 minutes we just left. Again the place wasn’t busy at all. Wasn’t a kid working behind the counter. Just an adult male that is really bad at his job. Guess back...
