While traveling out in Benezette, PA (yes, it's an actual place) to see the Elk of PA at the Elk Country Visitors Center we had occasion to look for somewhere to eat because the Visitors Center has no food. None. We drove back down the mountain to find something and happened upon the Big Bull Cafe. It was closed until 4 pm and it was 1 pm. We went a little further and found the Benezette Hotel and upon entering, lo and behold they had a restaurant inside as well. The place was clean and the service friendly. The menu was a bit sparse, but it had the basics, so we went for three cheeseburgers, a cup of Chili and an order of Fries. Our drinks came quickly and the selection was better than the food selection. What I have to complain about is the wait. It took quite awhile to get our cheeseburgers, but they brought out the Chili immediately. Now my friend would have rather waited until our food came out so we could have eaten together, but we assumed that since they were easy orders we wouldn't have long to wait. Boy, were we wrong. Thirty minutes later we finally got our burgers and Fries. Hot, average at best for taste, but okay. We think that their grill is very small. Because we watched people that came in at about the same time as us and they waited just as long. No good, but for the only lunch place in town, you'll have to suck it up and wait or bring your own food. The cost was average and the...
Read moreI stopped to get lunch here since it was a locally owned restaurant. We sat there so long without our drink order or anything being taken that we were discussing leaving. I wish we had. My friend ordered the special smoked burger that was supposed to be med well. I ordered a salad with grilled chicken. It took probably 30 or more min to get our food. My friend's burger was supposed to have lettuce but only had 1 tiny scrap.. It was also more raw than cooked. He said he couldn't taste the beef at all. It had such a deep amount t of smoke that smoke was ALL he tasted. My $10. salad had maybe 2 ounces of chicken on it. I was ready to tell the server they had forgotten the chicken when I found a tiny strip. There was 4 tiny strips in all. I could've eaten it all in one bite. I mean Texas Roadhouse has a chicken salad for the same price that's MUCH larger and actually has a variety of vegetabless in it and more than a bite of chicken. I can tell you after eating out all week during my vacation I can say this was the worst food we had. The service was horrible. We didn't even get our soft drinks refilled. It was over priced. I didn't see any rodents running across the floor and that's about the only good thing I can say...
Read moreMy friend and I ate there last week. We were visiting Elk County to see the elk.
After a very disappointing visit to the visitors center, it was closed, we went to Winslow Viewing Area. Please note the visitors center is only open on weekends January through March. While the viewing area was open, we were shutout on any elk viewing there as well.
By this time it was 3 p.m. so we went to the hotel for a late lunch, early dinner. We sat in the dining room. Area was clean and the staff was attentive. Restrooms are very nice.
I had smoked wings. They were excellent. My friend had a steak wedge. A steak wedge is thin crust, similar to pizza, stuffed with steak, lettuce, tomatoe, and cheese. It was huge. More like a meal to be shared. It looked delicious and she said it was.
When we got ready to leave we asked for two to go cups for our drinks. The young woman waiting on us not only got the cups, but refilled our drinks for the trip home. We told her about our disappointment in not being able to get into the visitors center. Her coworker, who had just arrived, then told us about three herds that she saw coming to work. Off we went. We were not...
