In an adorable part of Bensalem, right near the Delaware River, is the most wonderful cafe-diner. I visited the Waterside Cafe on a Sunday afternoon, and I immediately knew it was the place for me.
I have been on a diner hunt for the last 4 years since I moved to Bensalem, and nothing has quite scratched the itch. But as many before me have already discovered, Waterside has it.
The appearance is nothing special, but the place is a gem. I ordered the Monte Cristo sandwich with a cup of seafood bisque, a cup of coffee, and mozzarella sticks. Admittedly, I should not have ordered the mozzarella sticks, because the food is plentiful and filling. But as my waitress informed me, nearly everything in the restaurant is homemade, including those delicious mozzarella sticks.
A couple of things to keep in mind though as you plan your visit. Sundays are their busiest day, and you will typically need to wait in a line out the door. When I arrived at 1:30, it was completely full, but the line was at least indoors. You will probably not find parking in the reserved section, so you will most likely need to parallel park in the residential area.
Once you are seated, you will not be waiting long. Pretty much as soon as I ordered, I received my cup of seafood bisque. It is phenomenal, hearty, and has the tiniest wonderful kick to it. After that, it only took 12 minutes for the rest of my food to come out. Even though they are packed, they stay on top of things, and are by no means understaffed.
All of the staff is friendly, and you can definitely get to know the staff and clientele. All lunch items come with a cup of soup, and itโs a very good value. The mozzarella sticks are delicious, but you are definitely paying appetizer price. In total, I spent $26 before tip, but you can easily get away...
ย ย ย Read moreYesterday, I had the profound honor of meeting my brother-in-arms, Ray Weldie, for the first time in 48 years. ๐บ๐ธ We served together in the 110th Military Police Company during one of the Cold War's tensest moments: Operation Paul Bunyan in the Korean Demilitarized Zone, August 1976. ๐ฐ๐ท Forty-eight years ago, we stood shoulder-to-shoulder, facing down an adversary with unwavering resolve. The world held its breath as our forces went in to complete a mission that, on its face, was about a single treeโbut beneath that, it was a massive display of American and South Korean strength and determination. ๐บ๐ธ It was a message that freedom is never negotiable, and that our fallen would never be forgotten. Seeing Ray's face after all these years brought back a flood of memories and a wave of gratitude. We were just young men then, but we answered the call without hesitation. The patriotism that fueled our service is as strong as ever. ๐บ๐ธ To Ray, and to all the men and women of the 110th Military Police Company who were there on that day, thank you. ๐บ๐ธ Thank you for your courage, your sacrifice, and for showing the world what it means to stand for freedom. It was an honor to serve with you then, and it was an even greater honor to shake your hand yesterday. We did our duty, and our nation is stronger for it. ๐บ๐ธ #OperationPaulBunyan #Veterans #MilitaryReunion #110thMP #ColdWar #USA #Patriotism #BrothersInArms #DMZ #Korea...
ย ย ย Read moreMe and the wife decided to try a different place for breakfast after dropping the kids off at school. The place I did not know it was there. I have passed it many times on state road. Very nice place. It is very clean. They even had a changing table in the bathroom. Place was very busy a constant flow of people in and out. Very fast service we got our food quick. We both got the bonanza meal which included everything you see. I thought it was pretty cool got to sample there French toast ,pancake, chipped beef, eggs, bacon, sausage and home fries. The home fries were really good not over cooked or greasy you could actually taste that it was potatoes I just thought it was weird to be charged a dollar for onions. Everything was good. The other thing I thought was cool was that they had French vanilla and hazelnut creamer packets at the tables that was a first for me. We will come again. They had a good sized breakfast menu even had the breakfast that comes out still sizzling. The one downside about the place is...
