We went here last night for our anniversary after hearing lots of great things. It's a mixed bag at this place in my opinion. I'll share what we got and what we like and didn't like. Hopefully it will help you decide.
First off, we made a reservation and were seated as soon as we walked in, which was great. Our server was very kind and helpful. So no problems with people. The Atmosphere was meh. We called almost two weeks ahead and told them it was for our anniversary, we ended up with.a booth that was right next to the bar with a distracting television right behind. That's not a huge deal personally, but also not a particularly impressive atmosphere at least on the bar side.
We ordered two appetizers, the walleye bites and the bacon wrapped shrimp stuffed with crab meat and covered in Hollandaise sauce. The walleye bites were yummy and appropriately priced. 8/10 on those. The other one was like $18. It sounded SOOO GOOD. It looked pretty good coming out. But that was by far the driest piece of shrimp I've ever had. I would think with the crab, sauce and bacon that it wouldn't matter, but we just found out it a poor texture and not very good flavor. I'd give them a 3/10. Don't waste your money.
We did the upcharge for the fancy salad, which had shrimp, coconut, and mandarin orange with some green goddess dressing. This was pretty good. I will say that both of us were surprised that the shrimp were not grilled or even large. It kind of looked like all the ingredients came from a big package and were just thrown together. But like I said, it did taste good. I'd give that a 8/10.
For our mains I got a special that included 3 scallops and 2 small filet medallions. I was nervous with the smaller steaks that they would not come out as I ordered it (medium rare). No complaints here on the cook! Both filets were perfectly cooked and the scallops were brilliant. I can say that compared to home it tasted like it wasn't salted too early, the seasoning didn't penetrate through. But if we're judging just by the quality of items and the cook, they did a fantastic job on the stars of the show. I'd give them an 8/10 as the seasoning wasn't that great, but your mileage may vary.
My wife ordered the chicken piccata. This was my favorite dish of the night. Lemon caper sauce, juicy chicken that was lightly breaded. It was really good. I'd give that dish a 9/10. More so, it was less than half the price of my main. This is actually a good value and worth coming for.
The sides we got were both upcharged, one of us got brussel sprouts and the other asparagus with hollandaise sauce. These were pretty disappointing. It's not the quality of the vegetables, but they sure seemed like an afterthought. They both seemed like they were steamed, no grilling or browning or special care. Just made hot and covered with a sauce. For a steak house, I would really expect something with more flavor and a better cook. I'd give them both a 3/10.
All in all, it's a 3/5 stars in my book. Waaay too expensive for not enough care. The main dishes were given nice attention, but many other things were disappointing. We could have gone to cheaper restaurant 3x and gotten food that we liked better.
They do have some specials some days. We may come back and give it another...
Read moreEdit: Last review was 5 stars across the board. We've gone to Angry Bull over the years and the experience had always been consistent. I read another review that stated the black haired hostess was rude, we agree. In the past, we were welcomed with a genuine smile and kindness. This time, the hostess with the black hair was rude, scowled at us and made us feel as if our arrival was an inconvenience for her. She showed us the busy tables and reserved areas, we stated we were willing to wait. It was then she grabbed menus, silverware, and headed quickly to the bar area. We stopped her as we don't like sitting in any restaurant bar area, as it is usually louder and harder to hear one another, we stop in to eat a great meal and relax. Once we told her we didn't want to eat in the bar area, she turned and huffed, shot us daggers and snidely told the other hostess that looked scared that we didn't want to sit in the bar area. She then asked if we would sit in the back of the restaurant and we gladly agreed, she tossed her head and took off toward the back of the restaurant. Not a nice start. It went downhill from there. The bread was tasty but definitely not the home baked bread like it had been in the past the only good part of our eating experience. We ordered the shrimp cocktail, they were huge as usual. The shrimp arrived at the table with three warm ones, one chilled, the chilled one was rubbery and had to be cut to eat it. We stopped there, as the others smelled odd and the texture was iffy at best. The prime rib was fatty and tasteless. The other steak was very thin, about a quarter of an inch and charred. Neither cooked to our preference. The baked potato was rebaked/reheated, had the brown areas to prove it. The french fries tasted as if they were reheated in a microwave and tasted the same.
We sadly no longer recommend this restaurant.
Original: Always consistently wonderful meals. They've been in their location for years and it is worth the drive. A must stop and eat location for anyone within an hour...
Read moreNever had a bad meal here! Amazing food and their steaks are amazing! My only issue this time was when I walked in, I stood there waiting for someone to seat me and that took a bit before being acknowledged after a gal walked past me 2xs then finally said it would only be a couple minutes for a table to get cleared off and I could have a seat on the bench behind me. I did, and my husband stood beside me. A few minutes later, a group of 4 came in and was told 25 min wait. Shortly after, the hostess came. I started to get up, but instead, she took the party of 4! My husband started to sputter, and I told him I was sure it was because a larger table opened up first. A few minutes later, she came and said she promised it would only be a couple more minutes... she came for us and told us our table was ready and we followed.. only to see the party of 4 sitting at a booth the same size as ours! Now I'm annoyed, and my husband is pissed. So she not only sat them first instead of us essentially she likely hurt our server, who could have had a larger bill offering her a better tip, tho being a server previously, I do tip well and did a little better to compensate. But in a time when so many good restaurants are fighting to stay afloat, done enough, this could close a place down, even with excellent food and a historic reputation as the...
