Travelling through town with wife and 4 kids. Everyone in the bar side of restaurant was rude. Wouldn't move for me it my children to go to bathroom. Literally made us walk around them even when I repeated said "excuse me sir ". Prime rib and aus jus was completely cold. Asked about it and was told that they would reheat it. Both steaks can back out well done and inedible. 110.00 bill for the family, and 1 1/2 prime ribs left on the plates. No offer to even take anything of the bill. Literally didn't feel that my children were safe in this establishment. The nasty looks and comments kept us alert constantly. Still not sure why they were so insistent on not being decent. Obviously not racial, we were all white and all appeared to be room farming communities. We asked the lady at the gas station/truck stop next door. She said that the locales DON'T like outsiders. If anyone from the establishment would care to respond id he happy to hear your reasoning. As of now, I accept that we aren't welcome there and I will definitely deter anyone I know from stopping in. I'm sorry that it is that way, but nobody deserves to be...
Read moreThis is the defintion of a hometown diner/bar place. The food is AMAZING. Neat decor to match the name. Friendly service every time we have visited. Daily specials, fair pricing, social distancing and masks in place.
This trip we split the country fried steak breakfast for $10.99. Plenty of food for 2 adults with hearty appetites. The steak is hand breaded, nice thick cut, can cut with your fork. Gravy has flavor without overdoing the pepper or spice. Sides include hashbrowns, 2 eggs, 2 slices of toast. 4 different kinds of bread to choose from or an English muffin.
It's a short pretty drive from Des Moines- just off Interstate 35 about 12 miles south of downtown Des Moines. Open for breakfast and lunch 7 days a week. In the evenings it is a bar only, so no youngsters at night.
Locally owned and operated small business....
Read moreThis really used to be a good place to eat the food was good the help was courteous and they didn't have a problem substituting French fries for onion rings specially when you order the most expensive plate (25.00) for steak and shrimp that they have. However here lately the portions have become smaller the quality is not much better and the help has become argumentative to the point I got up and walked out. Unless they do a big turn around they can keep their undercooked over priced menu. You would think those farm boys would know a good meal. And not settle for something so bland. And just a FYI you should always keep your customer happy for God's sake switch out onion rings for...
