This supper club is a hidden gem!! I've lived in Waukesha for the majority of my life, but only recently discovered that this place even existed by simply driving south of the I-43 on ramp on 164.
While I do wish the entrance to the building was easier to navigate, once inside you feel like you're up nort' for sure! It's cozy and vintage with very few decorative thrills - it doesn't need any of that! The food, drinks and service speak volumes for the place. We did come for the Friday night fish fry and it was packed (7:15pm arrival - 35 min anticipated wait). We got drinks at the bar which was standing room only. Some patrons seated at the bar helped by ordering our drinks for us - everyone feels like a friend in here! We even shared a bar table with another man waiting to be seated for dinner. Their old fashioneds and amaretto sours are on point!
Our wait was accurately estimated. Once seated, our order was taken quickly and our server, Ginger, gave us constant updates. She was fast and friendly despite having a high volume of tables to tend to. Even their busboy was interactive and super nice.
I had never heard of an all-you-can-eat fish fry including fried chicken, so I was skeptical but intrigued. The family-style servings were perfect for our party of three. All of the food was PHENOMENAL. Their beer-battered cod was crispy, the baked cod was smooth and moist... and the chicken... OMG, the chicken! It's definitely brined and/or soaked in buttermilk overnight - super, super tender with deliciously crispy skin. Their homemade Tartar sauce is excellent - pretty sure the secret ingredient giving it a unique flavor is olive juice. It's robust and creamy. Haystack onion rings are portioned big enough to feed a basketball team! I didn't try the fries; but those I was with devoured them, so I assume they're tasty.
All of us left feeling so satisfied and happy. We spent the whole car ride home to Caledonia still raving about our dinner experience! Highly, highly...
Read moreWe've been going here a long time. My boyfriend and his friend are friends with the owner so we take very large groups once a month or so on a very regular basis to try and help patronize in a tough economy. BUT, if I ever have ANYTHING to say about it we will NEVER be going there again. We were there on 9/6/23 in the evening and I don't eat meat, so I always have a pasta dinner with a few veggies on top of it. All these items are on the menu for other entrées that are available all the time. I wasn't asking for some extravagant meal. It doesn't get any simpler. This particular night the place was very dead. Only about an eighth of the tables were taken. I could tell when I asked if he could make me the veggie pasta dish that I get that it wasn't gonna happen. She returned to tell me he was "overwhelmed" with the dead restaurant. I told her there's nothing else I can eat on the menu and pretty much got- Oh well. And since there was nothing for me to eat after everybody else ordered. I was upset about it so I went outside to get some air where I seen the "overwhelmed" cook, smoking cigarettes, and hacking all over the place. So he wasn't too "overwhelmed" to go smoke. After seeing him hacking I'm probably glad I didn't eat the food that he made. I'm not sure where the ball was dropped but this is NOT how you treat loyal and longtime customers who bring large parties on a regular basis and buy gift cards at Christmas to give away to everyone. This will NOT be happening. And this all could have been resolved so easily. I hope they realize that treating people like this won't do it. And I will personally tell everyone who stands still long enough to listen. So...
Read moreI guess if you want prime rib at this location you have to call multiple days if not a week in advance to reserve it, kind of like a pre order CD you don't know how it's going to be but you pay for it in advance. The food was OK they advertise and self as a supper club. It is just the normal country restaurant. It be nice when you called it the people on the phone were as nice as you were. Don't get me wrong the food was OK maybe a little bit better than the average but just about average. the atmosphere you'll go there and find out for yourself. But just remember pre order your prime rib if you want it. It looked OK and just OK. I did not get to try it because I did not make a reservation just for the prime rib. The steak sandwich for like $15 is definitely the deal. If this place reads or reviews I think you should revisit the I need to pre order my prime rub scenario. Make the next day special prime were rib sandwiches If you have any left over. It's kind of a joke that I have to pre order it make a table reservation and I know who's coming needs to have prime rib. The prime rib rubbed me the wrong way. It was a busy place they have good food but be prepared again it's a...
