We just returned from our annual trip to Leland County with family and friends. We looked online for a nice outing dinner event and came across Black Star Farms BBQ dinners. The tickets were 35 bucks each and there were 8 of us. We were completely disappointed in what we received for $35.00! The dinner was not good at all. The brisket was tough and the biscuits were dry. The atmosphere/building is nothing like what all the beautiful pictures portray on the website. We felt very much cheated and bait and switched from what we thought we were paying for. We could have easily gone out for a very nice dinner elsewhere for the price we paid and that didn't even include drinks! We arrived at 5pm and walked the grounds as the website suggested. We also did the wine tasting where the staff there was top notch and it was very good. We were told to go the the outbuilding where our dinner would be held. It was nothing like the pictures online portrayed at all. We arrived at 6pm to find the staff outside on the patio sitting down socializing and eating/drinking. We then walked up to the hotel thinking we could site see some more and there was a huge sign by the front door that said we were not welcome inside if we were not guests. We couldn't even go inside and inquire about staying at the hotel or look at the lobby! We went back to the outside "cafe" and went inside to sit. We were told when purchasing out tickets online that dinner started at 6:30 but food was not sent outside on tables till 7:15!! When the food arrived it was mediocre at best. Not good at all for 35 bucks a piece. All of the staff were very young and we saw no one in charge. Being the person who purchased the tickets ahead of time before our trip was completely embarrassed and had to apologize over and over again. You have such good potential to be one of the best in the area for what you are thinking you are doing but you are very much missing the boat. Contact me and I will give you some tips on how to make your place succeed with some changes in place. Until then we will NEVER return. So sad and...
Read moreI grew up passing Black Star Farm on the way to Leland every summer and was excited to stop in for lunch and some wine. We stopped at the cafe for lunch, there was a wait so we walked across the way to the wine tasting area. The service was terrible, we walked in and were told to walk all the way through the seating/bar area to the other side where the hostess was. The hostess immediately walked us to our table back on the other side of the area, where we walked in and then we were told to walk to the other side of the bar (again) to place our order. I understand that COVID guidelines make things complicated but this was just poor planning all around. We ended up getting pizza to go because the wait for a table was so long. When we walked back to the cafe to get our to go order we were the only customers inside the cafe with probably 5 staff. All of the staff looked at us when we walked in and then continued doing what they were doing without speaking to us. I said that we had a to go order then several waitresses walked right by us, out the door without checking to see if our order was ready. After waiting for acknowledgement for a good 5 minutes I asked if our pizza was ready, one of the cooks came from the back to get it for us. The cook asked one of the waitstaff you help us and we waited even longer before someone actually checked us out. Turns out several of my family members have had similar bad experiences, definitely would not recommend. The food and wine were mediocre but that’s subjective, the service however was...
Read moreWe made 11am reservations for the Sunday brunch and left about 1:15. I'm not sure if service is always slow, or if yesterday was abnormal. The hostess and wait staff were wonderful. My husband had the baked mozzarella which was mostly tomato soup with a few pieces of mozzarella. I had the beet salad which they did really well. I was going to try the burrata, but by 11 they were already out of. For our entrees I had three smoked salmon with a poached egg, hollandaise, potatoes and another cream sauce. This was a very well prepared dish. My husband had the roast beef hash. This was a disaster of a dish. It was supposed to be smashed fingerling potatoes topped with freshly shaved roast beef. It ended up being the potatoes with dried shoe leather over the top. They put everything in miniature cast iron skillets and baked it after putting the roast beef on top. What was worse is the 3 course brunch was $35 per person, then most dishes were an additional premium price. I don't have any problem paying for good food, but the treatment of this roast beef was not worth premium. And dessert was terrible. My husband decided on the chocolate, cherry cookie which was nothing special. I went with the fruit crumble that was just hot, fruit soup. I never really found the crumble part. I expected better execution of a limited menu. If you want a good atmosphere it is a beautiful venue, but the food was not...
