Solid Italian spot in Bloomfield! Food was great and the drinks were strong and delicious. The service was really good too. As you can see we tried a lot of different items, but as usually, I'll only speak on what I tasted. Initially the bread came, as is tradition in Italian restaurants. There was a lot and I really liked that there were two kinds (traditional Italian style and what appeared to be a sourdoughish). The hard Italian was much better than the sour dough. The calamari was decent. It wasn't the cheap rubbery kind, but it was slightly to salty and could have used more marinara. The stuffed mushrooms were good too. I felt that the portion was a bit small, but they were very tasteful! Also got the garlic bread as an app, very crispy, very garlicky which I enjoyed. I personally got the chicken parm, but switched from marinara to vodka sauce - I always feel like if they offer that switch they are legit. It was delicious! Chicken was crispy and lite. The vodka sauce very much out did the marinara in my opinion; one of the better vodka sauces I have had. It was creamy and just perfectly filling. The pasta that came on the side (all entres have it by the way) was cooked perfectly - nice and al'dente! I also liked that the sauce stuck to the pasta which is important to capture flavor. I tried the chicken franchise and it was very good. While I felt the portion was smaller than I would have liked, I cannot complain because it was just that tasty. Full disclosure, I didn't try the other two dishes, but the others I was with appeared happy. We also got two desserts, the tartufo and the lava cake - I didn't eat them but they looked good. I had the espresso and it was fantastic. Last thing, the drinks were well worth it, had espresso martini, a bourbon drink and cosmopolitan. All strong and worth the price. Speaking of prices, you won't break the bank here - everything was fairly priced! Overall I am giving Bella Napoli a...
Read moreWe cannot express how incredibly disappointing and frustrating our experience at Bella Napoli in Bloomfield, NJ, was. After making a reservation for a private room three weeks in advance, the night before our event, we were informed that our reservation was being bumped to accommodate a larger event for 70 people. We had a reservation for just 20 guests, but apparently, the needs of a bigger party took precedence over our long-planned gathering.
What was even worse was the complete lack of care or empathy from the staff. The manager was completely unfazed by the situation, showing no remorse or understanding for the inconvenience and disappointment caused. When we asked them to provide a proper resolution, the manager actually seemed upset with us, as if it was our fault for expecting to just a solution to the issue they themselves created
Their "solution"? Moving us to the bar area, despite our request for a private room! This was a slap in the face after we'd been planning this event for weeks. No apology, no alternative suggestions, no sympathy. Just cold indifference.
This level of disrespect and lack of customer service is beyond unacceptable, especially for a restaurant that clearly doesn't care about honoring reservations or treating customers with even the bare minimum of respect. I will never support a restaurant that obviously does not care to honor their word and I will make sure others know exactly what kind of treatment to expect if they choose to dine here. Bella Napoli has earned a spot at the top of my list for worst customer...
Read moreI hate to do this because my wife and I have been loyal customers for easily the past 10 years. We live close, and this has always been our "special occasion" dinner spot. Lately, however, we can't help but feel like a little cheated. Betrayed even. Recently we brought friends there for dinner (speaking very highly of the quality of the food) only to have our foot quickly shoved in our mouth when the worlds smallest stuffed mushroom appetizer came to the table, much to our disappointment. This has been one of our favorites, and the mushrooms have always been huge, yet these were embarrassingly small, barely the size of large acorns. Not enough for ONE person, let alone a table of 6. Additionally we waited uncommonly long for our food, and were almost late to the event we were going to afterwards. Thinking this was just a one-off night, we let it go. However, two nights ago we decided to order take-out for dinner (something else we do quite regularly). And once again both of our pasta portions were insultingly small. I ordered one of my favorite dishes from there, Cavatelli & Broccoli, which was once $16 and is now a head-scratching $21 slap in the face, and the take-out portion was less than half of what it used to be. Less. Than. Half. As I said above, I hate to do this, but this once faithful and regular customer won't be coming back. There are plenty of Italian restaurants to choose from and I unfortunately will be taking my hunger and my wallet to someplace where a $21 pasta dish will actually make me ... I don't...
